Keeping Puppies Calm through Thunder/Lightning Storms

High Five Puppy Skills

Thought it would be very appropriate to give some tips re keeping your puppies calm during thunder/lightning storms:
*NEVER say "it is okay"....by saying this, you are only saying that it is NOT okay.
*LOVE the fear, make it exciting, make it a fun event even if it means play acting!!

*IGNORE the fear - no worries.
*DESENSITIZE the sound BEFORE the event by downloading a sound app and starting off at low volume and build up over time. I use "Noise and Sound" which is available on android.
.....and lastly, have the radio on and curtains closed.

MetService have issued an alert to the potential development of severe thunderstorms with large hail and damaging winds tonight.

Heavy and thundery showers are forming over the high country north of Christchurch. These are then expected to drift southeast and there is a possibility that some of these may be severe, bringing downpours, hail larger than 20mm, strong wind gusts and possibly small tornadoes. These storms may affect Canterbury from Christchurch northwards as indicated on the chart.

Wind gusts of this strength can cause some structural damage, including trees and power lines, and may make driving hazardous. If any tornadoe s occur, they will only affect very localised areas. Rainfall of this intensity can cause flash flooding, especially about low-lying areas such as streams, rivers or narrow valleys, and may also lead to slips. Driving conditions will also be hazardous with surface flooding and poor visibility in heavy rain.

For more information go to www.metservice.com...
This alert is valid until 8pm, 10 October 2017.
