Have a heart of gold - support the St John Annual Appeal

St John New Zealand

Have a heart of gold and support the St John Annual Appeal 3-9 April.

The heart is the essence of life and has inherently warm and caring connotations. It also reflects the good that St John does in the community, and invites those who contribute to feel like they too have a heart of gold.

Taking the time to talk

Don't end up with;
“If only I had talked to my family about what I want for my funeral”.

It’s not always easy to think about, let alone talk about your own death. But if you take the time to consider how you would like to be fare-welled and talk about it with your family, then you could save your family some stress when the time comes. Instead of having to make decisions about coffin finishes and song sheets, your family can focus on supporting each other in their bereavement.

Tsunami warning sirens to sound on Sunday

Media Team from Christchurch City Council

The sirens will be tested on Sunday at 11am.

They will sound for up to three minutes and will only be heard within a few blocks of the coast between Brooklands and Taylors Mistake.

If the sirens sound for more than 10 minutes it is no longer a test and you should move inland to higher ground.

The warning sirens used to alert people in coastal areas that a tsunami could be on its way will be tested on Sunday to coincide with the end of Daylight Savings.

The sirens, located between Brooklands and Taylor’s Mistake will sound at 11am for up to three minutes. The sirens can usually be heard a few blocks from the coastline.

“People shouldn’t be alarmed to hear the sirens going off and don’t need to evacuate,’’ said Christchurch City Council Head of Civil Defence Alicia Palmer. “This is the first of two tests we do each year to ensure the sirens are working properly.

“It is a good reminder though to make sure you and your family have an evacuation plan and essential supplies at the ready in case you need to leave in a hurry.’’

When I left, heres more poo further down the road , close to  one of the entrances to Burwood Hospital . Not very good if someone steps in it , then goes into the hospital , or gets into their car .
