Raised garden beds are ideal for the family to grow your own vegetables or other plants and there are many benefits in using them including

- extending the planting season significantly as the beds will warm faster and hold the warmth
- allowing better drainage
- as the gardener doesn’t walk on the garden bed, the soil doesn’t become compacted
- the soil will remain light and loose allowing it to hold more air helping the vegetable roots to grow with less effort
- ability to reduce the number of weeds
- if using close plant spacing your raised vegetable garden bed will create a micro-climate which will contain moisture and further discourage weeds.

Fill with compost, mulch, good soil and fertilzer mix.

Hello to our lovely community of supporters.

Hopefully you all know about Webfair that Cat Rescue is currently using as a form of fundraising. People list items on the site and choose a charity to receive the money once sold.

This site was set up by an amazing family in Christchurch who wanted to reduce waste in landfills by people chucking away good items and also to help people raise monies for worthy causes.

We have raised over $2600 over many auctions with items donated by our supporters. This is not to be sneezed at as we are always looking to raise funds to pay our large vet bills.

We have large vet bills due to being a 'no kill' charity. If an animal is in pain then we will help it, regardless of its social status or breed.
Please see the photo's below of some of our rescued kittens during the past couple of years and then some photo's of kittens that have been fostered in loving homes and then adopted to a forever home. This is what Cat Rescue Christchurch does. Rescues, heals and loves.!!!!

We currently only have 25 items listed on our webfair this month, which is the lowest ever.

I am wondering if everyone could look into their cupboards and draws and find ONE item to post on Webfair this month. We have over 200 members on this site and even if 20 members posted on item and it sold, then it all helps. There are 10 fab charities on the site this month and hence a lot of people looking through all items so the audience is growing.

Also if there are any business out there that would like to donate an item over $50 you can get 4 weeks free advertising on the site. Win win scenario courtesy of webfair. Just email Donna@webfair.co.nz or Kelsey@webfair.co.nz and they can work out the details.
.
It is easy to load the webfair app on your phone, as it means you can take an instant photo and upload the item as a gift on the site very easily (easy than loading to trade me).

If you have any problems with logging on initially, first check your junk mail or email donna@webfair.co.nz and she will fix the issue. She has been great to our charity which I totally appreciate.

Psss if your item does not sell this month, then you can easily 'Relist" next month. It is as simple as a couple of processes as it retains all your previous information about the items posted but unsold..

Thank you in appreciation of your help.

Please share this post with other crazy cat people. We are a passionate bunch of people so I sure it will make a difference.
If you have any questions please ask.

Countdown supermarkets are recalling a frozen vegetable mix as a precaution amid fears it could contain a particularly dangerous strain of listeria that has been linked to nine deaths overseas.

The Ministry of Primary Industries (MPI) confirmed the recalled products have been traced back to a Hungarian facility, known to be the source of the listeria.

A Countdown spokeswoman said the supermarket had been advised there was a potential risk its Bell Farms Steam Veggies, Carrot, Corn and Broccoli bags contained the bacteria.

The company withdrew one batch of the Bell Farms frozen vegetables on Friday from all Countdown, SuperValue, and FreshChoice stores and has since recalled all batches of the product. Anyone who has purchased this product can return it to any of our stores for a full refund.

Frozen vegetables generally pose no risk if cooked correctly before eating, she said. Listeria can cause illness in pregnant woman and their unborn babies, newborns, the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems.

Information on the recall is available here. More information on food safety and listeria can be found here.
