This month we’re rolling up our sleeves, putting up our hands, and saying ‘YES’ to giving our time and skills to projects that make Aotearoa a better place to live.

As a mostly volunteer led organisation, our members know first hand the value and impact that a single volunteer can make in our communities. Imagine then how much can be achieved when several volunteers or even an entire street or neighbourhood decide to work together to achieve the same goal!

Whether you plan to coordinate your own volunteer driven activity, take part in one that’s already been setup, participate in National Volunteer Week (16-22 June), or simply show your own volunteers some extra love this month, know that every bit of effort to give back is a priceless investment in all of our futures.

Want to share your thoughts?

Hi guys,
Just a quick post, to see if anybody in the Belfast area has seen this cat around. If you have, a message would be greatly appreciated.
Twitch hasn’t been home since Saturday 25th May and she’s been known to wonder around the paddocks across the road from the Peg Pub.
She is microchipped, and extremely skittish (hence the name SPCA gave her) she doesn’t usually stray far from home but we are still relatively new to the area so she may have lost her bearings.
Her best (cat), friend has been acting very down since she wandered and it’s safe to say we are all missing her.
IDENTIFYING FEATURES:
Black short haired cat with a little white tuft on her chest/neck.

Thanks

Last year alone, 427 serious injuries claims were made to ACC because of crashes and driving incidents over this long weekend.

Let's make sure we all arrive alive to where we need to go by following these four simple and proven road safety actions:

- Make sure everyone has their seatbelts on
- Remove distractions and stay focused on driving
- Don’t get behind the wheel if you’ve been drinking or are tired
- Drive at a safe speed for the conditions

With severe and changeable weather forecast for across the country the following winter driving tips are equally important as well.

The only way we can reduce unnecessary road deaths and injuries is by working together to be safe, considerate and alert on the roads. If you spot dangerous driving behaviour or urgent but not life threatening driving incidents you can report it to the New Zealand Police by calling *555 for free from any mobile device.

Have a great long weekend!

A Christchurch garden centre has apologised for a burnoff that caused a thick blanket of smoke to cover the city.

Oderings Garden Centre on Philpotts Rd, Mairehau, confirmed the smoke was coming from a controlled burnoff on its land.

The haze of smoke was first seen in central Christchurch just before 10am on Tuesday. It was still there at 11.30am.

Oderings marketing manager Pamela Smith said the company had thought it was allowed to burn organic plant material on its site.

"We can only hope that the people of Christchurch can accept our sincere apologies and understand that this was a genuine misunderstanding on our behalf," she said.
