Happy Monday neighbours,

It’s a Christchurch institution that is older than the cathedral and the electric tram, and now Ice Cream Charlie plans to go nationwide.

Have you had a scoop from the iconic ice cream van?

Founded in 1903 – one year before Christ Church Cathedral was completed – the company has been serving its famous Vanilla Ices from its cart in Armagh St on Victoria Square for generations.

On Sunday Mayor Lianne Dalziel unveiled the family firm’s new cart, Peggy, which replaces the old one which was built in the 1950s.

Did you manage to snag one of 1000 free ice creams over the weekend?

Christchurch’s city centre is awash with “dirty, dusty, gravel pits” and the council has had enough.

About 120 car parks within the four avenues are potentially operating without the necessary consent, stifling the city’s revitalisation.

The Christchurch City Council will this month send letters to owners of those sites, giving them 90 days to either cease their operations or apply for and be granted a resource consent.

If they fail to do so, the council could issue owners with a $300 fine and issue an abatement notice to cease the activity. Owners who ignore the notice could face court action. Read more here.

My name is Karla and my husband and I are looking to house sit over the Christmas/New year period until we take possession of our new house late Jan. The dates we are needing are from the 21st of Dec until the 29th of Jan, however, we can work around this. Just hoping not to have to move too many times. We do have our lovely dog Obi too! He is an outdoor dog so won't come inside. We are happy to look after pets, mow your lawns, water your garden and I am super fussy and clean! If you can help or perhaps know of anyone who is travelling during this time, could you please private message me on this forum. We can supply a character ref no problem. Thanks everyone and have a lovely weekly.
