New Zealand Transport Authority is planning on a new route from Ashhurst to Woodville now that the Gorge is deems to unsafe. We have been given till THURSDAY AT 4PM to have submissions in to include a walkway/cycleway/horse bridal path to be added during original construction. It makes so much sense to build it during the initial construction phase and it opens up fabulous country for recreational pursuits, a facility sorely needed in this region.

I am asking you to PLEASE click on the link below and make a submission. Even if you don't visit this area now, it will be there for generations to come. It is a fabulous opportunity to create a versitile recreational asset.

Wings over Wairarapa Air Festival 2019 tickets are flying out the door. Ticket sales are up 35% compared to the same time last Festival. There have been significant ticket sales from the UK, North America and Australia.
Saturday Corporate Tables and Gold Passes have all sold out months in advance and there are limited hospitality options remaining for Sunday 24 February.
Wings General Manager, Jenny Gasson puts the huge increase in ticket sales down to a number of things.
“The word is getting out about our new initiatives for 2019; people are getting excited and want to experience these for themselves.”
“In 2019 we’re showcasing interactive and engaging displays, demonstrations and hands-on activities. We are offering workshops in rocketry, digital fabrication and coding, circuitry workshops, and people will be able to talk to experts with a range of aviation experience such as engineers, pilots and technicians.”
“We think that many people who’ve been before have realised that this show is going to be a completely new experience, and our new look Air Festival is attracting new audiences, our ticket sales clearly show this.”

For the past few months Carterton District Council has been planning to re home native mudfish found on Daleton Farm, ahead of construction of 200,000m3 storage ponds.
However, delays on the rehoming project occurred following the discovery of a compromised seal to the new habitat, meaning retaining water was a challenge.
Infrastructure Manager Dave Gittings says research into an alternative home had begun, but thankfully for Council (and the mudfish), recent rain and the seal holding means the original habitat is now suitable and rehoming is likely to go ahead during the Christmas period.
“Although we have been looking for alternative habitats we are really happy that we can stick to the original plan.”
“Now that the seal is secured and water being pumped into the wetland is being retained the mudfish relocation can go ahead.”
The rehoming process is expected to take several days depending on how quickly the fish are caught in the existing habitat.
Council is currently making contact with pre-registered volunteers who will be expected to help Council staff with creating the catch channels in the habitat, setting of the nets and transportation of the mudfish and other related duties under the direction of a Council freshwater ecologist.
If you would like to volunteer for the relocation project please let us know by emailing casey@cdc.govt.nz by Monday 17th December.
