Local Growers will be there with their range of fresh spray-free, compost-grown produce. Audrey has yacons on stall for the first time this season. This is a ground-grown root vegetable, sometimes called a "winter cucumber", fresh and crunchy, with a sweet flavour. Ideal for chopping up in a winter salad. Or you can add it to the pot near the end of the cooking for some extra sweetness.
Other seasonal veg on stall this week includes the last of Audrey's capsicum - only $1 each - as well as beetroot, bhok choy, daikon, jerusalem artichoke, florence fennel, kale, leeks, lettuce, marrows, miners lettuce, mizuna, pumpkin, radishes, rocket, silverbeet, spinach including NZ & perpetual spinach, spaghetti squash, swedes, and tat soi. They also have free-range eggs, hazelnuts, walnuts, lemons, limes, chillies, horseradish, parsley, and homemade jams and chutneys.
Julie from Greytown Gold is back with her Greytown Gold olive oil and roasted hazelnuts, or if you want them in the raw form, she has some for sale in 1kg bags. She also has lemons, limes, dried feijoas, and rhubarb.
Wilf from Hensons Gardens has sweet mandarins this week, and with yams at $7 a kilo, why pay up to $11? He also has brussel sprouts, shelled walnuts, leeks, both eating and seed potatoes, pumpkin, kūmara and parsnip to name but a few - all seasonal and grower-fresh straight to you.
Helen will be there on her Garden for Life stall with something special for sale this week - her climbing lily (Gloriosa) tubers. In Spring each tuber produces strong wiry stems with climbing tendrils up to 1m high. During summer numerous 4-6cm reflexing blooms with rippled petals of crimson red flames to a yellow base appear - a valued cut flower. Easy to grow in a warm sunny position – in a porch or under the eaves of the house is ideal as they need protection from the frost. Helen will also have available her useful range of garden accessories, including her evergrow bags, bokashi buckets, seeds, and garden tools.
Alesha is at the market for the first time this week selling her upcycled and pre-loved homeware.
Other stalls also at the market are:
Helen's honey
Maureen's plants
Jenny Abbott’s plants and ornaments
It's been a couple of weeks between markets. The weather is likely to be a bit inclement but the forecast is good under the verandahs opposite the square. It’ll be great to see you there.

We bought this back in 2015 and it works well except for some small dim areas on the screen... most people don’t even notice them and it doesn’t affect the viewing.

I am presently doing a Masters at Victoria University, where I am researching alternative building systems that may support the building of affordable homes to address the housing shortage in New Zealand.
I am looking for people that are involved in the residential construction industry, homeowners or people wanting to one day own their own home, to complete an online survey. The survey is completely anonymous and will take about 10 minutes to complete.
Your participation will not just help me with my Masters' report, but should hopefully also lead to the introduction of an alternative building system to help address the housing shortage. If you would like to participate, please go to this link: vuw.qualtrics.com...
If you have any questions about this research, please message me.
