Crews working overnight have managed to divert wastewater flows through an old pipeline.

This means we are able to significantly reduce overflow into the harbour. However, we can’t say for sure the overflow has stopped.

We continue to ask people to stay out of the water in the rāhui area (from Kaiwharawhara to Point Halswell). Harbour water quality testing will continue in the interim.

We are continuing to work through options to ensure we can completely stop the overflow as soon as possible.

We’re really sorry about the inconvenience this is causing to people and traffic.

Large shed for sale - make us an offer!

Kevin from Martinborough

We’re selling our shed to make way for a larger one.

It’s 10m2 which is the largest you can have without council permission and we put it up a year ago. We’re hoping that this will be sold and removed by mid January.... it’s probably strong enough to be moved whole on the back of a truck or taken apart and then moved.

It was a kit set shed which cost us approx $4000 and we’ve then added the following;
- placed it on a stronger base (made from 100x100 wood)
- Lined it with plywood.
- Added roofing paper.
- added cross bracing in the roof
- painted the outside in black and white paint

Most of the electrics will be removed as will the hose and guttering as I’ll use them on the new shed.

Thanks!

Beautiful old painting - cats - framed

Joan from Masterton District

This beautiful painting of two cats is what looks to me like oil on black velvet. The owner has downsized with no room to hang them. It is a reluctant sale. The colours are still vibrant though the paintings are old. The frame is not wood . Qntique style, it is in very good condition.

Following emergency works at Dixon Street yesterday, crews have worked through the night on options to divert wastewater around the blocked areas. More work is required, and to help with this there are currently two major local road closures in the CBD.

• Willis St is CLOSED between Vivian St and Manners St
• Ghuznee St remains CLOSED between The Terrace and Victoria St

Please expect significant delays through the CBD, particularly on Vivian St. SH1 traffic should use Cambridge Tce, Wakefield St, Jervois Quay, Waterloo Quay and Aotea Quay as alternative routes during this time.

We are working with local businesses and residents who have been incredibly accommodating, and thank them for their patience and support as we work to repair the pipe.

Wastewater is still overflowing into the harbour, and the rāhui is still in place (see map). Please continue to stay out of the water, and do not go fishing or collect seafood.

We also thank residents and businesses in the affected area for doing everything they can to reduce their water use.

Taranaki Whānui have placed a rāhui on swimming in the harbour this afternoon following a major wastewater discharge into the Wellington Harbour.

The discharge is the result of a collapse in a tunnel that is part of the wastewater network in the CBD area. The wastewater is entering the harbour near the dive platform, and Whairepo lagoon near Te Papa.

Wellington Water has mobilised all our temporary systems to contain the wastewater but they will not be enough. Regrettably wastewater will enter the harbour at Frank Kitts Park/Taranaki Dive Platform by our emergency overflow point.

At this stage it is unknown how long this will last for, or the volumes of wastewater that will be discharged. We are working to try to divert the flows through other parts of the network.

We have staff currently out working with residents and businesses to advise how they can help by conserving water to reduce wastewater flows.

We are working with stakeholders and will be providing regular updates to ensure that they are able to keep the public informed.
