Keep our Glendene Esplanade

I and my fellow friends who use that area for water born recreational activities and others who walk the track strongly oppose any return of the Glendene Esplanade water front and the public land bordering Span Farm. I know personally that the owners brought the land for the sole purpose of stopping someone else from buying it and then complaining about the dust etc that they create from there concrete crushing plant next door. I have been part of Span Farm for 17 years and when one of the past owners let the Esplanade lease go the council came in and removed all the buildings and had all removable property on the Esplanade removed and the owner was told not to use the Esplanade.
The owner of Span Farm has tried many times to stop people from enjoying the Esplanade as he believes he is entitled to it. He is still using the land now for personal gain and this must stop. Please action our request. We are passionate about our water front’s and that they be there for the good of the general public and not be released back to private enterprise. We don’t wish to go to the papers etc but will do if this matter continues to drag on.

Hey neighbours,

Restaurant Month is back for another year, set to bolster the Auckland culinary scene by offering discounted dishes and unique events for the entire month of August.

Gastronomes can expect 31 days of specially curated menus at the value-for-money price points of $25, $40 or $55+.

Restaurants included span those from the waterfront to the CBD, and from stalwarts such as Euro, Botswana Butchery and Odettes Eatery, to the newcomers and the underdogs.

Viv Beck, Heart of the City chief executive, said this year’s lineup is “more world-class than ever” thanks to the “inspiring lineup of chefs”, some of whom have recently returned to Auckland from stints overseas.

It’s a welcome return to New Zealand for the Red Bull Flugtag competition, which last graced our shores in 2004 when it was hosted in Wellington.

The competition will see amateur aviators design, build and then fly contraptions in a bid to be crowned winner.

The thousands of people set to descend upon Wynyard Quarter to see the event are likely to keep business booming for local hospitality hotspots.

NOT TO BE MISSED - a REAL CONVERSATION with the community and the average person wanting to learn more about heart disease and heart health management.

The question of what causes heart disease, especially atherosclerosis is one which scientists have been trying to answer for a long time. Recent advances in thinking and debunking of old science changes the way we think about this and therefore what to do about it.

For example, are fats (lipids) in the blood important? And how they get there in the first place. How does what we eat, exercise, and sleep affect us.

Be surprised, learn something new, and engage with Professor Grant Schofield in unconventional thinking about your health.

Grant's talk will be informative, exciting and in simple terms that a layperson can understand.

COMING NEXT THURSDAY to Mary Thomas Centre, 3 Gibbons Rd, Takapuna (behind the Takapuna Library)
WHEN: 5th August, 10:15 - 11:30am
WHERE: Upstairs conference room

Grant Schofield, PhD, Professor of Public Health, Director Human Potential AUT Millennium Centre, is an ex NZ representative sportsperson with a doctorate in Psychology and a passion for Public Health. Grant leads Masters and Doctoral research programmes on cardiovascular disease, diabetes, obesity and other metabolic disorders. He is particularly interested in the impact of nutrition and exercise on cardiovascular disease.
