We like to help with donations to charitable institutions - donating towards a good cause, where we can afford it.
In 2016 a marketing person came to us and signed us up for a two-year period for a worthwhile cause. This person explained that our donations at $25.00 per month would have to go over a period of two years only. Then stop, as we thought. Now, in 2019, these donations were still running, without the charitable institute asking for our authority or without just notifying us that the donations would be ongoing.
The same thing happened to us with another two-year scheme, for another charitable organisation. Starting beginning 2017 and still carrying on this year, six months over and above the two-year period!
We now have stopped both.
The point I wish to make?
When someone knocks on your door or stops you at a supermarket asking you to sign up for "two years only" (usually $0.50 or $1.00 a day...your choice how much you want to donate) - then TAKE CARE what you sign up for. Some charitable institutions seem to operate on what could be called the "Readers Digest" system: "If you don't say anything, we will continue your subscription". The difference here being that Readers Digest is up front with their system.
So - it's not about dobbing in some charitable institutions. You will have noted that I don't name them, since they are organisations that provide exemplary and sorely needed community services. I probably would not have minded with continued donations, but as a pensioner I now have to watch my budget.
Just make sure what you sign up for - and get a copy of the contract or agreement - and diarise the end date well in advance.
Cheers,
Michael

This morning we had the first of our Matariki Art Classes - School Holiday Programme sessions. This is a hands on class led by Fine Young Artists for kids aged 6 to 15 years, where they'll learn about Matariki and make their own Matariki diorama. Sessions are twice a day every weekday during the holidays, 10.30am and 1.30pm. $10 per child (no cost for an accompanying adult).
Of course, we invite you to make a day of it and explore our galleries and Weird and Wonderful Discovery Centre while you're here.
It’s not too late to book! Various dates and times still available. Find out more and book here: www.aucklandmuseum.com...

Message from Auckland Council:
Auckland Council’s Healthy Waters Department have started emergency works to repair a damaged stormwater pipe in Lynn Reserve.
We have completed our initial inspections and have fenced off most of the reserve to allow for a full investigation and work to begin on repairs.
At this stage we will keep access to the children’s playground open, however we would appreciate all children in this area being under direct supervision, please keep away from the works and particularly from vehicles entering the site from the road.
Our works to repair the pipe will take some weeks, and some of the work may be noisy and disruptive.
We will endeavour to work as quickly as possible but must acknowledge that at this initial stage we are not sure how long this work will take.
When we have confirmed the full scope of works to be done, we will update you with a project timeline.
We understand that this work may inconvenience you and the community for some time and we apologise for this disruption and thank you for your patience throughout the repair project.
If you have any health and safety concerns at any stage, please contact our 24hr call centre on 09 301 0101, who will instruct our contractors to attend urgently.
Any further questions or for more information, please email us at HWCustomerandcommunity@aucklandcouncil.govt.nz
