Ancient Greeks: Athletes, Warriors and Heroes is a world-renowned collection from the Ancient Greek world, and is the largest selection of ancient artefacts ever loaned by the British Museum to New Zealand.
But challenges in bringing international exhibitions to Aotearoa during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic have prompted the rescheduling of Ancient Greeks, which was due to open last month.
Auckland Museum chief executive Dr David Gaimster said the virus has had a major impact on touring exhibitions across the globe and here in Aotearoa.
“We continue to explore other exhibition offerings and their viability and remain committed to the importance of international special exhibitions in bringing the world to Auckland,’ he said.
“We continue to work with international partners on an exciting range of exhibitions for our domestic audiences and look forward to announcing these as soon as they are confirmed.”
The exhibition showcases a wide range of treasures and stories and includes a selection of iconic sculptures from the ‘Mausoleum at Halikarnassos’, one of the seven wonders of the Ancient World.

I live in Albany and will split my time between Stuff's Ponsonby and Takapuna offices. I enjoy writing about crime, social issues and anything funny, weird or wacky.
If there is anything you think Stuff should be reporting on or investigating, I'd love to hear from you. Feel free to message me via Neighbourly, Facebook (link below) or flick me an email at caroline.williams@stuff.co.nz

Jane Hunter has been a part of the North Habour Community Patrol for 14 years, serving as the eyes and ears of the police.
Hunter is a finalist in the Westfield Local Hero community grants competition, which recognised and promotes community role models.
“I felt very honoured to be put forward by the North Harbour community as a local hero,” Hunter said.
“That in itself is a huge tick for the time that I’ve spent with the patrol.”
North Harbour Community Patrol monitors 30 suburbs, and is currently in “desperate” need of volunteers.
“We only have one vehicle. If I’m announced as the winner, we’ll have sufficient money to be able to get a second vehicle,” Hunter said.
The winner of the competition is decided by a vote, and will receive a grant of $10,000.
Hunter said a big part of the community patrol was maintaining a visible presence, so that locals know that there are people looking out for them.
“We monitor for stolen vehicles and people who are of interest to the police,” she said.
“We also help with search and rescues, and do public events for the police.”
Westfield Local Heroes is in its third iteration with 126 grants on offer across New Zealand and Australia.
