Fireworks are a ton of fun but carry real risks that need to be taken seriously. If you plan on lighting some here's some tips to keep everyone in your community safe and happy.

❌ 1. Never light fireworks in dry or windy conditions.

🔥 2. Only use fireworks in wide open areas, away from flammable items such as trees, grasses, gas tanks, and wood.

💦 3. Keep a bucket of water or hose nearby.

👧 4. Children should never light fireworks themselves and need to be supervised closely at all times.

🧰 5. Keep all unlit fireworks in a secure bag or container away from any source of fire until they are ready to be used.

📞 6. Be considerate and let neighbours know if you're planning to set off fireworks. Aim to finish at a reasonable time.

🐱 7. Keep pets comfortable and secure inside. The loud booms and flashing lights can easily scare them off.

🐮 8. Avoid lighting off fireworks around farm animals and be aware of any newborns or elderly neighbours who may also be affected. If possible, change locations to somewhere that minimises any disturbances.

🌿 9. Be a tidy Kiwi and let's work together to keep New Zealand beautiful! Clean up any any rubbish and leave your spot better than you found it.

Hi Neighbours, Is working for a council agency public service, or should it involve pay bonuses for doing a job well done. Panuku Development has paid $451,000 to 38 of its staff, angering the mayor Phil Goff. Are bonuses appropriate ?

My own response is this. That is a huge lot of money to be giving as bonuses to this particular council agency. Look, at any work place, there should be some work incentive for working so many work hours at any job or workplace for the employees or the job at general I understand that. I used to work at Spotlight, I used to get a christmas bonus with my pay once every year. This was with all Spotlight stores in NZ and in Australia. This was our little perk once every year we employees and the employers get towards December. I don't know what other stores get here in NZ, but I am sure everyone would get the same, not sure though.

Instead of taking bonuses away from work places or any agencies, look at what the MP's at Wellington earn and see if what they earn is actually much more than what the average worker is earning in the way of bonuses.

What do others think?

SO, I've been having fun on this summer day. =D Enjoy!!!!!!!! =D

The Government is granting an extension to learner and restricted car or motorbike licences that are expiring soon.

Brian from New Lynn

The extension will apply to holders of licences expiring between December 1, 2019 and December 1, 2021 - giving them an extension of two years, Associate Transport Minister Julie Anne Genter announced today. More than 144,000 licences are set to expire in the next two years; with 67,000 in the 12 months from December. "The reprieve gives learner and restricted drivers a little more time to get their full licence, improve their driving skills or save up to pay for the test, but I want to be clear that people on time-restricted licences need to take the necessary steps as soon as possible to move to a full licence," Ms Genter said in a statement. "The imminent expiration of driver licences is linked to a rule change in 2014 that introduced a five-year time limit on restricted or learner licences. "Whether people are unaware their licence is time limited, or for other reasons, the current rate of learner or restricted drivers progressing to the next licence stage is too low." While time-limited licences make sense in theory, Ms Genter said, the reality is "that people without the resources, training, or support to pass these tests risk becoming unlicenced when time’s up".
