Discovery of remains could answer one question but leave more

Libby Totton Reporter from Waikato Times

It’s been more than 900 days since Alvina Smith last saw her partner Shane Edwards - standing at the kitchen sink doing dishes.

Now, if human remains found near a Tokoroa creek turn out to be his, it’ll resolve at least one of her many questions.

South Waikato councillors have deemed Santa a “must have”, and a core part of fostering community spirit in the district, with the man in red set to return despite the lean times.

In December 2023, the South Waikato District Council had to cancel the town’s annual Christmas parade after a local Lions club, that traditionally organised and ran the parade, had to pull out due to a lack of manpower and escalating costs for traffic management.

Is a Santa parade a must for you? Tell us your reasons in the comments (adding NFP if you don't want your words used in print).

Good afternon one and all on this damp day - my gardens absolutely love this rain.
And there I go again, slightly off tangent.

My hour of need is thus, as so many people have moved here or are moving over to Australia, I'm looking for help/advice as to which company will be the best to ask to ship a few large(ish) boxes over to Australia please.
I need affordabilty, I need honest and reliablity and I will also need to know what questions to ask them before I commit to them.
I do know that your everyday courier companies are going to charge and arm and a leg (and maybe a kidney as well).

Speed isn't a concern for them to get there, but knowing that they will get there is the key and all in one piece.
I don't have scales at home to weigh each box, but the contents will vary in weight from heavy to not so heavy.

For those who can't reply to this post, feel free to send me your suggestions and recommendations via email:
rufasmonroe@gmail.com

I look forward to your suggestions and recommendations😊

The Treaty Principles Bill was introduced to parliament last week and could have ramifications on the partnership between the Crown and Māori.
Hīkoi mō te Tiriti (March for the Treaty of Waitangi) set off from Cape Rēinga on Monday morning and is expected to reach Wellington next Tuesday. It has now passed through Kaitaia, Kawakawa, Whangārei, Dargaville and is passing through Auckland on Wednesday.

What you need to know today:
- The hīkoi is due to cross the Auckland Harbour Bridge about 9.30am on Wednesday. Two northbound lanes will be closed at some point before the crossing, and remain closed during it.
- NZTA shared at 8:50am Wednesday:
'Curran St northbound on-ramp will be closed shortly, with two northbound lanes on the Harbour Bridge expected to close from approx 9.30am this morning. Allow extra time for likely delays through this area.'
- The hīkoi is expected to go across the Harbour Bridge, in a controlled fashion before marching through parts of the CBD towards Okahu Bay.
- Auckland commuters should expect traffic disruption in vicinity of both sides of the Harbour Bridge.

Stuff reporter Steve Kilgallon was at Stafford Park on the north side of the Harbour Bridge at 8.30am Wednesday and shared:
"I just walked through Stafford Park, where there’s about 400-500 people quietly assembled and more arriving; and about 20 police standing over near the motorway off ramp. Lot of Tino Rangatira flags in evidence, local streets very busy with parked cars."
Police have shared that they will respond accordingly to any issues that may arise along the route.
