Today, we had the absolute pleasure of hosting & welcoming Kate Russell, CEO of Supply Nation, Jenny Wardrop, Interim Head of Membership Services at Supply Nation and Beau Hodge of Baidam Pty Ltd to The Pacific Business Hub.

Kate, her team & their delegation of First Nations businesses from Australia are here to attend the Amotai - Supplier Diversity NZ Summit. Supply Nation is the Australian leader in supplier diversity. They bring together the biggest national database of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander businesses with the procurement teams of Australia’s leading organisations to help them engage, create relationships and do more business. They currently work with 5,000 verified indigenous businesses.

We appreciate this opportunity to showcase our work & what we do to support Pacific businesses here in Aotearoa, NZ and sharing our plans for expansion into Australia and the Pacific region with Kate & guests.

This was also an amazing opportunity for some of our HUB Connect Pacific business members to sit & have a talanoa together & do a little bit of networking with our guests. Much gratitude to our members for taking time out of their business schedules to be with us 🙏🏽

We acknowledge Joe Fuavao & Philippa Hawken Senior BDMs from Australia Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade) & Trade and Investment Queensland (TIQ) for facilitating this meeting. Faafetai mo le avanoa 🙏🏽

Will higher speed limits be a net benefit to NZ (when considering alleged economic gains, probable increase in planet warming emissions and probable increase in severity of road accidents).

Am I missing something? .. or perhaps Simeon Brown (Minister of Transport) is an unabashed "petrol head" who wants higher speed limits at any cost?

A vehicle traveling at a steady 110 kph would save only 5.5 minutes over another that is traveling at a steady 100 kph. Is it a worthwhile saving? Is there anywhere in NZ that it is safe to travel at a steady 100 or 110 kph for 100 km?

Would a truck and trailer unit still tailgate at 110? (even though the heavy vehicle speed limit is currently 90 kph).

Would the savings of a few minutes, here and there, compensate for the increased severity of road accidents (with associated economic costs) and NZs increased liability for greenhouse emissions?

Higher Speed Limits
  • 70% Yes .. net benefit

  • 10% No net benefit or loss (neutral)

It’s no longer just about saying goodbye to work - it’s now an opportunity to try something new or keep doing what you love. Rather than hanging up their hats, many of today’s retirees are redefining this phase by staying active through part-time jobs, volunteering, or even launching new careers.

Living in a retirement village doesn’t necessarily mean you’re done with work either; rather, it offers the opportunity to explore different activities, pursue long-held passions, and discover new interests. In fact, many people find the lifestyle gives them more freedom to stay engaged and active through work they enjoy.
