Hi Auckland,

What do you think about the newly announced festival on Motutapu?

Island Time on Motutapu is a festival to be held over the last weekend in February and is set to feature a smorgasbord of food and drink vendors and music artists.

Festival-goers will be treated to a day long festival on either February 27 or 28 on the island. Tickets range from between $65 to $85, with a portion of ticket sales going towards to wildlife conservation.

Billy Brown, the deputy chairman of Ngāi Tai Ki Tamaki, said that it is an excellent opportunity to showcase the culture of the island and for them to educate visitors about volunteer opportunities on Motutapu.
“In the end, we want a calendar of events on the island, covering sports, arts, food – all of it," he said.

Ferry services from Te Onewa Northcote Point Wharf have been suspended only a week after they restarted, following an on-board incident which saw a crew member injured.

On Thursday, February 4 the wharf was opened with a blessing from Ngāti Whātua, with ferry sailing commencing shortly after. Prior to this, the wharf had been closed since June 2018 for a $2.6m upgrade.

However, a crew member was injured during an on-board incident this week, highlighting the need for additional engineering work to improve safety on vessels during berthing.

As a result of the incident, ferry services have been temporarily suspended. It is not yet known when they can re-commence, again.

Three former students of a North Shore high school have been reunited on the tarmac.

The Westlake Boys High School old boys bumped into each other at their military flying training as Royal New Zealand Air Force (RNZAF) pilots.

Flying Officer Denzel Williams 24, Flying Officer Aaron Kurte 24, and Flying Officer Tyler Waters 25, all attended the school in Auckland's Forrest Hill.

Kurte and Williams were in the same year and played hockey together, while Waters studied in the year above them.

Despite following different flight paths after leaving school, the trio found themselves on the same pilot's course at the Royal New Zealand Air Force Base in Ohakea.

All three have passed with flying colours with six other new pilots.

Kurte made coffee as a barista while he saved for private flying training.

Williams did odd jobs for a few years and travelled with Kurte before joining the Air Force.

And Waters studied a Batchelor of mechanical engineering at Auckland University where he graduated with honours.

Aucklanders can divert their e-waste from landfills by dropping it off at a series of events being rolled out around the city.

Auckland-based company Computer Recycling is hosting more than 30 e-waste drop-off days.

During the first two events this year, members of the community delivered nearly 22,000 kg of e-waste.

More than 300 people flocked to the First Presbyterian Church in Papakura to drop off 8462 kg of e-waste.

This included more than 70 printers, 56 old home appliances, 63 televisions and other electronic goods.

Meanwhile Greenbay High School saw 450 people and drew 13,512 kg of e-waste to be diverted from landfills.

During the events, Computer Recycling will be raising funds for the children's Variety charity and will be matching the donations.

The next two events will be held on February 27 at Mt Albert Baptist Church and on March 6 at Massey University East Precinct Albany Expressway, in Albany.

Do you plan to take advantage of these e-waste days?

Or do you prefer to take your rubbish to the dump?

Hi neighbours, my wife and I are looking for a new home... after 3 years in our current place in Forrest Hill the owners are making it back to NZ and won't renew with us.

We are a working couple, no kids and we can provide good references. We aim for long terms and always look after it very well.

The ideal place for us will be a house in the North Shore, please refer to map attached. Around 3 bedrooms, ideally 2 bathrooms and we really need a garage.

Our rent expires in the 2nd of June, so we aiming for having our new place available between May 21st and 11th June.

Thanks for hearing us - Gui and Claudia
