I quickly turned around and went to check on it and it appeared it had just been hit. Another lady pulled over and said she'd seen a car hit the cat but then left. Cats run across roads, and no one is at fault, but PLEASE, if you hit an animal, or see an injured animal, stop to check on it and help if it is still alive. If it is not alive, please move it to a berm or footpath in the hope the owners can find it. This cat was injured and bleeding but still alive (just). Between a few of us we got the cat to a nearby vet but sadly I got the call half an later to say 'Dixie' had died. At least she didn't die on a busy noisy road, or worse, get hit again and again. I know it's difficult to witness but every minute counts when an animal has been injured. Thank you for being aware and kind.

"Hello, my name is Andrea and I live in St Heliers

I have been part of the Neighbourly family almost since its inception. I was chuffed to become a Neighbourly Lead while living in Meadowbank and naturally when I moved to St Heliers about 18 months ago, I wanted to still to be a Lead here too.

I love living in St Heliers as I am close to the beautiful Kohimarama Beach, but also close to Madills Farm; a great park where people walk their dogs all the time - I get to give lots of pats but no responsibility, though I would still love a dog and have thought of putting my name down on the waiting list for a retired Guide Dog.

As a ‘’mature’’ lady whose children have long flown the nest, Neighbourly is my morning companion. I check in daily to see what is going on whether it’s someone asking for advice or sharing a recommendation.

I’m really passionate about the Neighbourly site. I love that we can reunite pets with their owners, and give local recommendations. I had a situation once where I could not open the door of my safe!!! So many people gave me advice and I ended up using a recommended 'safe’ business to get into it again!"

Poll: Is the letterbox obsolete?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

With online being the main mode of communication these days, it's no wonder that there has been a worldwide mail decline and here in Aotearoa, NZ Post has needed to lay off 750 full-time staff. Do you think it's time to say goodbye to the trusty letterbox?
