Personally, I've been spending half my life tortured by sleep deprivation ever since police helicopters began to routinely early morning flyovers of my otherwise peaceful home and street. Last night they woke me 3 times!
There's no doubt that very few of these sortees relate to violent crime.
Surely police chiefs (not the operators just doing their jobs) need to set strict boundaries that consider the wider public good. They must prioritise our health over our property. (there's so much we can do to secure our property, but nothing including ear plugs and expensive secondary glazing will block out the noise of the helicopter!)
If police in other parts can keep their communities safe without a helicopter, the Auckland police can save it for genuine emergencies.
I get that most people are lucky enough to sleep through the noise, or maybe just wake for a moment, but if you or someone you love is part of the large number of people who is suffering terribly, please take a minute to let the police know how you feel. NO MORE OUT OF SIGHT OUT OF MIND!

Well Aucklanders are being asked to share their food stories and nominate the region’s best dishes.
The Iconic Eats Auckland list launched last year with nominations ranging from dishes found at fine dining establishments to cafes, food trucks, markets and hole-in-the-wall offerings.
Winners ranged from traditional dishes to those representing the ethnic diversity of the region.
Auckland Unlimited spokesperson Annie Dundas said Iconic Eats is the “ultimate culinary bucket list” of dishes that can only be enjoyed in Auckland.
“What makes this list unique is the amazing stories submitted with each dish that showcases the diversity of Auckland’s food scene – the talented people, the places, the cultures, the experiences, the flavours,” she said.
One person who submits a story will be declared the winner of Iconic Auckland Eats 2021 and enjoy vouchers for all 100 winning eats.
Nominations are now open and stories can be submitted at www.iconiceats.co.nz... up to 31 August 2021.

We're looking for lockdown gardening ideas! With New Zealanders stuck at home everyone is keen to get into their gardens, but they can't get to the shops to buy plants and seeds. So we want to hear from you some suggestions for crops you can start or sow from what you have on hand or useful gardening hacks using just what you have at home already without going to the shops.

Kiwirail has decided to move the future Drury West train station in the same lineal direction of the planned railway but almost 500 metres from the main hub of schools, services, businesses and mall center. Additionally the place where they plan to allocate the station will not make it possible for those of us wanting to reduce the use of cars to commute in a safe and secure manner. Looking at the other southern train stations, it looks like a repitition of the same behavior of decisions to allocate train stations far from services, schools or businesses. (An exception to this is Middlemore Hospital, Newmarket and Britomart).
