Police have established a Major Operations Centre (MOC) to provide oversight of the Police response to the upcoming hīkoi from Northland to Wellington.

The MOC, based at Police National Headquarters in Wellington, is providing logistical, resource and communication support to all districts along the hīkoi route.
Major Operations Director Superintendent Kelly Ryan says Police have been engaged with hīkoi organisers for many weeks.
“Our discussions with organisers to date have been positive and we expect the hīkoi to be conducted in a peaceful and lawful manner,” she says.
The hīkoi is expected to leave Northland today (Monday 11 November) and travel to Wellington, arriving at Parliament between Monday 18 and Tuesday 19 November.

“We’ve planned for large numbers to join the hīkoi, with disruption likely to some roads, including highways and main streets along the route,” Superintendent Ryan says.
“The MOC will support our frontline, district-based staff with the management of people, vehicles and activities, while also maintaining central oversight.
“We will continue to co-ordinate with iwi leaders and our partners across government to ensure public safety and minimal disruption to people going about their daily routine.
“We’re also well connected with NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi and local councils to ensure road users have up-to-date information and can plan accordingly.
“The MOC will remain in place while the hīkoi is in Wellington and as participants make their way back home safely.”

But often families overlook that they are leaving their family home unattended. Security lights activated by motion detection provide a fantastic deterrent to people who may be snooping around while you are away. When your driveway suddenly lights up like Eden Park, this is a great message for the uninvited to go elsewhere. Makes sure you have some form of security lighting in place before you head off to the beach. Replace failed security lights and ensure peace of mind while you are away. Don't be the only home in the street that has no security lights - you may become the target

Blessing scam

Three suspected scammers have been arrested trying to leave New Zealand with a large quantity of cash from their alleged victims.
A 50-year-old man and two women, 59 and 53, were arrested at Auckland International Airport yesterday by detectives from the Auckland City Financial Crime Unit. The trio, all Chinese nationals, were arrested just before they checked in for their flights to China.
They arrived in New Zealand on 10 October. Police alleged that two days later, they began operating a blessing scam – a form of fraud targeting immigrant or elderly communities who are deceived into believing they or their loved ones are cursed or in spiritual danger.
Police have jointly charged the three suspects with two counts of obtaining by deception. The charges relate to two victims – one who lost $14,500 and jewellery and another who lost $15,000.
The accused were remanded in custody following their arrest and are due to appear in the Auckland District Court today. Police are continuing to tally the money that has been recovered, but it is a substantial amount.
Perpetrators of blessing scams pose as healers or spiritual practitioners, offering to remove the curse or bring good fortune in exchange for money or valuable items. Victims are pressured to hand over cash or jewellery, typically instructed not to open the packages they receive, only to later discover that the contents are worthless.
While the Financial Crime Unit has identified two victims so far, it’s highly likely more people were targeted.
We urge anyone who may have fallen victim to this scam to contact us and encourage members of New Zealand’s Chinese community to talk with elderly relatives and make a report if they have been scammed.
If you have any information that could help our enquiries, please contact us at 105.police.govt.nz... or call 105.
In New Zealand, blessing scams have predominantly targeted Chinese communities, exploiting cultural beliefs in spiritual healing and curses. This type of fraud has been active in New Zealand for more than 15 years, with a notable rise in cases in Auckland in recent years.
Police have continued to raise awareness within at-risk communities, yet these fraudulent activities persist, often carried out by well-coordinated groups.
Police remain committed to protecting all members of the public from fraud and financial harm, and ensuring that everyone feels safe from deceptive practices.
We encourage the community to stay vigilant against scams and to remain cautious when approached by individuals offering unsolicited services.
If you suspect that you may have fallen victim to a scam, please contact Police via 105 immediately.

Although 19, he has a developmental age like that of preschooler/early primary school children and physical appearance of around 12 yrs. A young family with children of similar ages would be ideal as he loves playing games of this age group (primary school age). This is an amazing opportunity to bring a sense of personal well-being and fulfilment to your life and his. He is looking for a caring, loving, understanding and supportive family and in return he will bring lots of laughs and joy to your household. A placid and gentle person he loves trampolining, bird watching, dancing, music, going to the beach or the park. He loves being outside so a garden that is fenced would be great. He loves days out or just hanging at your place, whichever suits you and your family. He has a unique style of communication using an Ipad to talk, which you can learn to use too. He will need full supervision, and you need to be comfortable with changing nappies. Starting with a monthly/fortnightly weekend day care increasing to overnight respite care once a month or so, giving everyone time to get to know each other. No experience necessary just a kind and caring heart. Mum and dad will be on call if necessary. Potential employees will be subject to reference and police checks.

PARENT EFFECTIVENESS TRAINING (PET) ONLINE STARTS 7PM SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 17, 2024--PEACEFUL PARENTING FOR A PEACEFUL WORLD

Hello Parents for a Peaceful World

Parent Effectiveness Training PET is the world’s oldest, most popular and proven effective parenting program in the world. Since its inception in 1962 millions of parents from many different cultures have benefitted from the program. PET differs from all other parenting programs in that it never condones nor advocates the use of any kind of punishment or reward. You learn how to substitute talking and listening to meet needs mutually rather than using power to try to control the child’s unwanted behaviour or giving up and surrendering to your child.
PET is a 16+ hour course delivered by Zoom in eight 2+ hour sessions, over eight consecutive weeks at a day/time convenient for all worldwide. The course includes two workbooks, the PET book by Thomas Gordon (also in Chinese), PDF of sessions, and Completion Certificate--all digital texts sent by email. Highly interactive role plays, group discussions, personal examples, workbook exercises--in group, pairs and threesomes; and individual weekly debriefing. $100NZD/$60USD (Single or Couple--$50NZD/$30USD repeat students). "Parents can raise children who are responsible, self-disciplined, and cooperative without relying on the weapon of fear; they can learn how to influence children to behave out of genuine consideration for the needs of parents rather than out of fear of punishment or withdrawal of privileges.” Thomas Gordon

“As I took my PET Course, I started noticing changes within myself and in my daughter. She responded to all the skills as I learned them and put them into practice. Our problems became less and less. Through the new skills I was learning, I was able to improve our relationship; we learned to be honest and have an open relationship. I started trusting her more, and in return she did the same.” Mother who took PET
