Five urban and five rural high-risk roads and intersections, plus 20 urban pedestrian projects are getting attention during the current financial year that runs from July to the end of June next year. You can stay up to date with NZTA projects here.
The urban road safety improvements include a signalised pedestrian crossing on Taharoto Rd in Takapuna and new traffic lights at a busy intersection in Wiri. Rural safety improvements are planned in Dairy Flat, Silverdale, Waiuku and a new intersection at Popes Rd and Porchester Rd at Takanini.
A further $5 million is being spent on improving road markings and better signage on more than 400km of rural roads.

Preventing social isolation
All of us are social beings by nature, and feeling isolated can often have a negative impact on our well-being and health outcomes. Keeping in touch with the people we know can have many benefits for our physical health, mental health and wellbeing.
Did you know that…
About half of older New Zealanders experience some level of loneliness in our lives.
Older people are particularly vulnerable to social isolation or loneliness due to loss of friends and family, mobility or income?
A person can be socially isolated, but not lonely?
lacking social connections is as damaging to our health as smoking 15 cigarettes?
Loneliness and social isolation are not the same thing?

On 19 September 1893 New Zealand became the first country in the world where women were able to vote in national elections.
Now, 125 years on, Auckland Council is marking this historic moment and the path it paved for the liberation of women with mostly free events and activities for all ages.
You may be surprised to learn that in NZ you do not require any qualification or training to work as an Accountant. In contrast, a Chartered Accountant has undertaken years of study, ongoing training and must adhere to the highest professional standards.
