Hi Neighbours!

The Minister for Seniors Tracey Martin has released the new strategy for our ageing population, Better Later Life – He Oranga Kaumātua 2019 to 2034.

Like the rest of the developed world, New Zealand has an ageing population. This means there are some things we must consider and prepare for as a country.

Better Later Life takes a fresh look at what is required to ensure New Zealand is a great place to age and achieve the vision of making sure older people lead valued, connecting and fulfilling lives.

The strategy's key areas for action will be used to guide the priorities of what needs to happen in our action plan.

Jo and Rachel talked about what's going on in their own backyards and suggested some edible crops you can sow and grow yourself. Jo gave a masterclass in planting tomatoes, the pair discussed peeing on lemon trees and keeping cats out of your vege beds, and Rachel talked to a Central Otago gardener who has to deal with extreme temperatures, extreme drought... and temperamental donkeys. Beware of Shake Shed Company for icecream cakes!

Jen from Torbay - Long Bay

I bought a Party Cake via their website on August 17th and when I went to pick it up, they gave me the wrong cake. I wouldn't have minded if it was for an adult's birthday but it was for my daughter's 2 year birthday so I specifically ordered the fun party cake. As of today, still no one in management has called me back. I have literally left message after message for Karen (the manager of Shake Shed Glenfield) to call me and she has refused to contact me. I also left numerous messages with someone called Chang, who the female employee at Shake Shed Glenfield said I could also try to contact. Again, no response. I finally went back to Shake Shed Glenfield in person and was told by the female employee that I've been dealing with there, that Karen gave her the message that I was only entitled to a hot dog voucher for the cake mistake because I took the cake the day it was due to be picked up. This is absolutely outrageous because I had NO CHOICE but to take it, as my daughter's birthday was the next day and there was no time to get another ice cream cake anywhere else (they take at least 1 week to make). The part I'm really angry about is that I've had to chase management for over 2 months just to get the answer that they won't accept responsibility for the mistake and provide a refund. I've given them chance after chance to show some kind of customer service but they are absolutely the worst company I've ever dealt with. Even their head office phone number goes to an un-named voicemail which they don't reply to. I've emailed them and they just ignore me. I tried this company based on a friend's good experience with them but I just have to warn others that if they make a mistake with your order, they just won't care at all! Rant over.

Dr Bachmann has noticed that there is immediate action required concerning education in oral health. In her daily practice, she sees mostly kids and teenagers and is quite surprised how little everybody seems to know about oral hygiene. It is fun, educational, and entertaining. The feedback from staff and parents is always positive. The highlights of the session are the pink tablets that she hands out to the kids to show them where they missed out on brushing. If your school is interested, now or in the future, in her free service for class 7 to 8 students, feel free to get in contact with Bachmann Orthodontics 094481128.
