Auckland’s “Boring Day Out” will be held at the project's Mt Eden construction site on December 6.
People will be able to see up close the machine named Dame Whina Cooper after the Māori rights activist.
They will also view where the machine starts its underground journey next year, from Mount Eden to the new Karangahape underground station, then to the Aotea station in central Auckland.
“This will be a rare opportunity to see the star of New Zealand’s biggest-ever transport infrastructure project before it disappears underground,” said Francois Dudouit, Project Director for the Link Alliance.
Details about where people can get tickets on-line will be announced next week.
Ten visiting sessions will be held, with the first entry at 9 am and the last at 6 pm.
Visitor numbers will be restricted to 500 for each session.
Tickets are free and people can book up to five tickets per person.
People with wheelchairs, mobility scooters, prams/pushchairs and walking sticks are welcome.
Entry to the Mt Eden site will be via Ngahura Street near New North Road.
The walk is 600 metres long and the ground is flat but there are some uneven surfaces.

Auckland Council and the Hibiscus and Bays Local Board started consultation on a branch of a large pōhutukawa tree at the Waiake Beach Reserve in Beach Rd on Monday.
The branch in question hangs low over a boardwalk which leads under Beach Rd, leaving 1.4 metres for people to walk under.
By Wednesday, vandals had taken matters into their own hands and lobbed off the branch with a saw, leaving the remains in the estuary below. However, the remainder of the branch still impedes the boardwalk.
“The illegal incident is incredibly disappointing and is being investigated by the council,” head of area operations and community facilities Julie Pickering said.
Anyone with information on the vandalism should contact Auckland Council on 09 301 01 01.

I strongly suggest you go to Gavin Tipping’s classes as he is a wonderful tutor and will open up a new world for you and give you the knowledge and confidence to operate your mobile phone, laptop and PC home computer.
Gavin has small classes and shares his knowledge with personal attention to make sure you understand technology and its many uses. Gavin is patient and understanding, his classes are very friendly in a relaxed comfortable setting with like-minded people who become friends.
I am amazed at how much I have learnt in a short space of time. Previously I only used my iPhone for texts and phone calls and now I have discovered and learnt how to navigate and use the various applications available. I have also broadened my knowledge and confidence with my laptop and PC computer and found that technology is not as frustrating and overwhelming for me as it had been – in fact I enjoy it! • Sunnytown Restaurant on Lorne St, Sunday 11.30am – 11.45am

One new coronavirus community case has been confirmed today in Auckland. The AUT student became symptomatic on Monday 9 November and was tested late on 10 November.
During this time they were working at A - Z Collection on High Street from November 8 to November 11, however did not attend the university. Other locations visited by
The Ministry of Health states they are investigating the source of this new community case and are asking people who may have visited A-Z Collections store on High St and 106 Vincent Street from November 7 to the November 12 to isolate and get advice on being tested even if asymptomatic, as well as staying isolated until test results are returned.
Further information will emerge once this person has been interviewed to share any further locations of concern.
