The business case is needed to ensure Government funding and should include a preferred option for stormwater storage at AF Thomas Park, significant work in Nile Road, and work in Totara Vale, Sunnynook, Link Drive, Becroft Park, Knightsbridge Reserve and Wairau Creek, that will collectively reduce flooding in Milford and across the catchment. The "keystone" to make it all work is water storage at A F Thomas Park.
Danielle Grant and I from the Kaipātiki Local Board, and Melanie Powell and Terence Harpur from the Devonport-Takapuna Local Board presented to the Transport, Resilience and Infrastructure Committee in support of proceeding with the business case and in support of Option 3 (stages 1 and 2). We made it very clear that we are not anti-golf and if there is a way to retain golf on the park while accomodating the large volume of water that will be required, then that would be ideal.
The committee also heard from Takapuna Golf Course who presented a plan that could potentially allow an 18 hole golf to remain, and they heard from the Milford Residents Association in support of urgent action to prevent another flooding incident.
