“We’ve done it before, and if we want to get out of Level 3 as quickly as possible, we need to work together and do it again,” says Ōrākei ward Councillor Desley Simpson of the regionwide placement at Alert Level 3 to stop the spread of COVID-19.
To meet central government regulations many council facilities are now closed and amenities like playgrounds, park benches and basketball courts are off-limits during the level 3 lockdown.
"even if you can’t see a closed sign on the equipment, the fact that COVID-19 can live on a surface for up to 72 hours means that to keep you, your family and others safe, you should keep off it."

Following the announcement on Tuesday night, the Northern Regional Health Co-ordination Centre recorded over 7800 Covid-19 tests on Wednesday, beating the previous record of 6407 tests on June 23.
Anyone experiencing cold or flu-like symptoms should seek to get a free Covid-19 test at their local general practice, urgent care clinic or one of Auckland's 15 community testing centres.
