The Auckland Regional Public Health Service has warned swimmers to watch out for jellyfish blooms on Auckland beaches.

Jellyfish stings and rashes can spoil your swim at Auckland beaches, especially as the water gets warmer, the service says.

They can be caused by a range of sea life, some of which are too small to see.

These include jellyfish, anemones and sea lice along with the more obvious crabs, stingrays and sharks.

Bluebottle jellyfish produce a nasty sting and people should stay out of the water if they see them.

Go to the Ministry of Health website or phone Healthline on 0800 611 116 for information.

Have you been affected by a jellyfish bloom this summer?

Feel free to email caryn.wilkinson@stuff.co.nz if you have.

Please put NFP if you do not want your comments used by Stuff.

Living in the present is splashingly good fun

Hi Neighbours, I saw a collie playing in the water at Orakei Basin, it was soooooo happy and I thought, that dog isn’t worried about the future, or what is on its “to-do list.”

What freedom to be released from the constant round of thoughts about what might happen, or what did happen. Dogs live in the present moment mostly. Humans are generally happiest when they do so too. That is something that I help people to relearn in my mindfulness courses. For more information see my website below
