Confidence leads to many more things, like jobs!
Second language user Zhixin (Carol) visited our office looking for a class which would fit in with her study with a need to get a job after completing tertiary study. Her written and spoken English was very good but she lacked confidence to believe that she could get a job.

Read what Carol said and how she has succeeded:

“As a second language speaker, I suffer from not being confidant with my English, and this causes nervousness, especially during interviews or other important events. Nervousness decreases my English ability. It creates a bad circle, and eventually I lose confidence and the ability to trust myself.

The interview and discussion with you, was incredibly beneficial- I could not say enough thanks to you to help me find the confidence. I hope other English learners could gain their confidence too.

I did an interview after visiting you and I think I did well during the interview. Now I have obtained a full- time job.”

We and the planet need every tree available to help fight climate change. And there is nothing better than to sit under a tree and watch the world go by . And also the trees are so important to our biodiversity survival. Bit by bit all our big beautiful trees are being cut down . A tree of that size takes a life time to grow and people are cutting the tree down in seconds. This should not be allowed.
The old Grey homestead in St George Street Papatoetoe surrounding trees and bush were totally destroyed including a massive tree that had a trunk the size of a small car. I realize we need homes but PLEASE try to build around the trees . Really by keeping the trees enhances the property and adds value.

They and their families are finally being settled into the communities of South and East Auckland with the help of the New Settlers Family and Community Trust www.nfact.co.nz... . Their priorities are learning English and settling their children into schools. They have jumped at the chance to learn either on-line with Zoom or face-to-face in classes where they can meet and make new friends. You may have a new neighbour who looks different to you. Remember, greetings are universal and a warm, welcoming “hello” and “how are you”? will make all the difference to new, New Zealanders and their families feeling comfortable in their new communities. You might also share some Maori greetings – their children will be learning these at school.

With easy long-distance international travel still a way off, you can still immerse yourself in Pacific weaving, admire hand-drawn Indonesian batik fabrics, join a Bollywood dance class and watch live cultural performances.

Although this year's festival is smaller due to COVID-19 restrictions, World of Cultures is a great opportunity to learn, dance, eat and explore everything that makes Auckland a unique and incredible place to live.
