Hi Neighbouring businesses,

The Government's decision to drop Auckland to alert level 1 was announced at 11.30 am on Friday.

Read how the timing of releasing the decision has affected an Auckland business in this story by Thomas Coughlan and John Anthony:

An Auckland restaurant owner says she will have to write off up to $15,000 in revenue for the week due to the Government’s decision to delay announcing when the city will move down alert levels.

A “preliminary decision” on whether to move from alert level 2 restrictions to level 1 was made Thursday evening, but the Government decided to wait until 11.30am on Friday to announce that from 12pm Auckland would move down to level 1.

Chand Sahrawat, co-owner of Auckland restaurants Cassia, Sidart and Sid at The French Cafe, said due to the delay in alert level change she would need to write off $10,000 to $15,000 in revenue for the week.

At alert level 2 her restaurants must operate one server per table, which slows down service, and have two metres between tables, resulting in the restaurants being able to operate at only 50 per cent capacity, she said.

"The whole process just slows down."

Without a warning on when alert levels would change the restaurants were not able to take forward bookings or order in the food they required because suppliers did not deliver ingredients on a weekend, she said.

Also, if they ordered ingredients but the move to level 1 did not go ahead when predicted then that could result in about $5000 of wasted ingredients, she said.

Chand said the Government seemed to move quickly into lockdown but took a long time to move down alert levels.

She wears black. Always. As it turns out, death was not the end of her story. Chapter four.

Rebecca Zwitser from Last Writes

She was wearing black. “Look at me” she said. “I don’t even need to change.” I watched her carefully. Even though people are staunch, there are layers and layers and layers that few people ever like to unpack. Particularly her. And, me actually. I gave her a hug. And we cried a bit.
“I cannot believe Mum is dead.” I looked at my bright blue shoes. Penny continued. “It is Saturday. That’s fun family day. I packed a picnic for my husband and daughters for a day of sailing – I was looking forward to some alone time while they were away. The phone rang and someone asked if I had someone with me. Why would they do that? Of course I know. They only do it when someone is dead.”
Death is so final. My reaction was shock with a lingering side-order of confusion. I knew her mum. I knew her importance to Penny and the family. I knew her story. What can I do?

Hi Auckland,

A $452 million 21-storey high-rise building has been unveiled and is to be built above one of Auckland's new railway stations.

Auckland Council has signed over a $40 million, 125-year lease to a Malaysian developer which will see construction take place over the City Rail Link's underground Aotea Station set to open in 2024.

The plans include commercial and retail space, 60 apartments and a public plaza. The developer, Malaysian Resources Corporation Berhad (MRCB), will begin construction of the nearly half-billion dollar building after the completion of the station in 2024, and is expected to take about three years.

What do you think about the design?

We watch captivated by the spectacle of those impressive America's Cup yachts foiling at 40 knots across the Hauraki Gulf, and at the same time, it's hard not to have a salutary reflection on the last 12 months.

Almost to the day, we were celebrating the 25th Anniversary of the New Zealand School of Food and Wine with special wine tastings, cooking classes, forage and gastronomic dinner for over 75 guests + our students. Many of our Christchurch team, including Lois, Philippe and Victoria had come up for the weekend. My mother-in-law, June Hay had also joined us from her retirement home in Christchurch. By Sunday 15 March, I was getting pretty nervous about Covid-19 and rather than have June stay in the North Island for a holiday, she returned home the next day. A few days later June's rest home went into lockdown and I counted the 14 days to see if we too had a NZSFW Covid Cluster. Fortunately not! See below some photos as we recalled the 10th Anniversary of the Christchurch Earthquakes.

A testimony:

I was delighted to meet Gloria and find she is 'the real deal'. What I mean by that is she took the time to listen to what I needed and what was going on in my life and adjusted her treatment accordingly. It was a truly negotiated experience where my needs and desires were respected and taken into account. Not only was the massage very professional and effective, the additional extras - the bach flower choice, the energy healing, reflexology and guided meditation - really took a treatment with Gloria out of the ordinary spectrum and into the extraordinary. If you are looking for professional, holistic, respectful body treatment, I highly recommend Gloria. Afterwards, I felt like I was floating on air."
