They claim Auckland Council ignored expert advice on the risks for the project to spread kauri dieback disease.
Watercare had applied for resource consent to carry out earthworks and vegetation removal for the upcoming replacement of the Huia Water Treatment Plant.
Titirangi Protection Group’s (TPG) spokeswoman Belynda Groot said “it’s totally wrong” for consent to be given after abundant evidence from kauri dieback and ecology experts at the resource consent hearing in April this year advised against the build.

Auckland Transport is proposing to install no-stopping yellow lines on the bend on Normanton Street to improve driver and pedestrian safety.
The changes will result in the removal of 10 on-street parking spaces.
From AT: "We have received complaints from residents who reported poor driver visibility when vehicles are parked on both sides of the bend. This proposal will increase pedestrian and driver safety by ensuring drivers have a clear line of sight and that they can navigate the bend safely without having to manoeuvre around parked vehicles. While we acknowledge that this will remove on street parking from visitors to Normanton Reserve, there is a significant amount of available parking further down Normanton Road away from the bend."
Consultation is now open until Friday 9th July.

The changes, which come into effect on Monday, follow the completion of a $350 million upgrade of the downtown waterfront.
The new piers has resulted in the renumbering of those at the downtown ferry terminal, Auckland Transport (AT) has advised.
The timing of some services will be altered to accommodate the new piers, and some new services will be added.
