The wonderful team at BestStart Gillies Avenue, 181 Gillies Ave, Epsom have just created a beautiful Pataka (community pantry).

They created the Pataka after noticing an absence in the community for an easy, sustainable way to donate, swap and provide support for those without.

Their aim is to be able to give back to the local community and give support to those who need it whilst also ensuring that the environment is protected by being able to reduce, reuse and recycle.

They'd love for you to come and check it out, donate and help spread some aroha in our community!

Did you walk across the Auckland Harbour Bridge when it first opened in 1959? Work on the construction of the clip-on lanes in 1969? Collect tolls from drivers until the bridge became free in 1984?

We’re researching stories for our Tāmaki Herenga Waka: Stories of Auckland exhibition opening next year and want to hear from anyone with early memories of the Auckland Harbour Bridge and how it changed life for Aucklanders, especially on the North Shore.

Email us at haveyoursay@aucklandmuseum.com if you have an interesting story you’d like to share.

Kia ora koutou Neighbours,
Once again I am a drop off point (Remuera - other areas listed at bottom of post) for this really awesome couple. If you have blankets, bedding, items of warmth to suit the descriptions below (new or clean second hand), I'm building a stockpile to get a carload(s) to them.

Please message me or text 0212170261 if you wish to drop off items.

Give a Kid a Blanket started in 2015 as a Community Activated Art Action conceived and lead by artists Donna Turtle Sarten & Bernie Harfleet. The project has gone from strength to strength and is now a non profit registered charity. With the help of the community of kindness that has gathered around the project we collect blankets and other items of warmth and care and gift them to kids and their families through service providers including police, public health nurses, social and community workers.

Since 2015 we have gifted over 60,000 blankets and over 40,000 other objects of warmth and care.

We also support North Shore and Auckland Hospital’s Intensive Care Units with family support packs.

In 2020 we start collecting for winter from from the May 30 till July 19.

This year there is a ‘Give a Little’ page to support the costs of running the project. givealittle.co.nz...

With what is predicted to be an even harder winter for many kids, with families in NZ facing the winter cold in cars, garages, sleep outs and damp cold housing, we hope we were able to help more families keep warm this winter.

We want recipients to feel both warmed and valued by the community.
Our focus is to celebrate the acts of kindness many are able to make, and acknowledge the important work of those working with families from health and social agencies.

Follow ‘Give a Kid a Blanket’ on Facebook - www.facebook.com...

What to donate:
New and excellent condition pre-loved blankets, sleeping bags, duvets, baby sleep sacks, winter bedding, duvet covers,
pyjamas, beanies, socks, jumpers, winter coats, rain coats, cots, Moses
baskets. We are only able to except New Pillows and New Hot-water bottles.
(NO other types of clothing thanks)

Donation Protocols (Covid-19)
All donations must be bagged or boxed, no loose donations please.
All Pre-loved donations must be washed by the donor before donating
When donating please place donations where the donation drop point host asks. They will then be quarantined for 72 hours before being handled.
