Driver illness and shortages means more bus replacements for trains across Auckland

Kia ora Neighbours,

Buses will replace trains this weekend, but on a reduced schedule to account for drivers falling sick.

All Auckland Transport trains will be swapped out with buses this weekend (starting Friday at 9.30pm on the Western Line), as KiwiRail has essential maintenance to complete.

Those replacement buses will be less frequent that normal on the Eastern, Southern and Western Lines "while driver shortage and high rates of driver sickness continue," AT says.

AT Group Manager Metro Services Darek Koper says he knows it's frustrating but drivers cannot be asked to work while ill.

“We all know friends or family members who are being knocked about at the moment by winter illnesses, whether it’s COVID-19, the flu, or a bad cold doing the rounds,” said Koper.

“We’re asking Aucklanders to be patient and understanding as we work with our operators to hire and train more drivers, but for the meantime we will unfortunately see more disruption to our services this winter.”

The best way to keep up with network changes is through the AT Mobile app or via the journey planner online.

Kia ora koutou Neighbours,
Once again I am a drop off point in Remuera for this awesome initiative but with general illness and Covid, I have been fairly inactive this year. With two weeks of collecting to go, I thought I'd put the appeal out for any warm items as listed below for them to deliver to families in need to help get through this tough winter.

Please message me or text 0212170261 if you wish to drop off items.

Welcome to our 8th Winter campaign

Give a Kid a Blanket started in 2015 as a Community Activated Art Action conceived and lead by artists Donna Turtle Sarten & Bernie Harfleet. The project has gone from strength to strength and is now a non profit registered charity. With the help of the community of kindness that has gathered around the project we collect blankets and other items of warmth and care and gift them to kids and their families through service providers including police, public health nurses, social and community workers.

Since 2015 we have gifted over 60,000 blankets and over 40,000 other objects of warmth and care.

We also support North Shore and Auckland Hospital’s Intensive Care Units with family support packs.

Below are our hosted Donation Drop off points.

Find one near you to donate.

We need;

New and Excellent condition pre-loved blankets, sleeping bags, duvets, baby sleep sacks, winter bedding, duvet inners and covers, pyjamas, beanies, socks, jumpers, winter coats, rain coats, Moses baskets. We are only able to except New Pillows and New Hot-water bottles

We would all share costs equally, with the studio space (large, warm, heated, insulated, private “rumpus room”, in my central Remuera home). NO CHARGE for use of the space.Easy street access and parking. I am a Kiwi painter, (UC Berkeley. Certificate in Studio Art - acrylic on large scale canvas, who exhibited professionally in San Francisco for a decade or so, was there for over 20 years, and need to work my artistic skills back up, following hiatus). Can store your drawing boards/easels if needed etc. Share all costs of professional models, etc equally. Light refreshments and good music possible, if wanted (to be decided by group). Must be light-hearted, good sense of humor, wanting to improve art practice. Can decide times etc later. I am a school teacher, so must be after work hours. Let me know what you think. All expressions of interest will be welcomed. Would like to avoid strong solvents. Also seeking professional models. Tim
