Around 600 front line call centre and retail staff "were exempted from this offer to avoid any disruption to customer service while we work through our company-wide review of our operating model," Gieck said. She added that the voluntary redundancy offer was separate to compulsory redundancies that will affect a so far unknown number of the telco's 2800 staff. Insiders have told there is a broad expectation that the voluntary and compulsory redundancy processes will see around 400 staff culled. However, new chief executive Jason Paris has emphasised there is no set number. It won't be fixed until the review wraps up at the end of this month. Last week, Unite Union organiser Shirley Wang told the Herald that 50 of her members who worked at a Vodafone NZ contact centre were in the gun. She expected their jobs to be offshored. A "climate of fear and anxiety" had been created by the restructure process, Wang said. "There will be no closures of New Zealand call centres as an outcome of this process," Paris said. However, Paris did early acknowledge the possibility of some contact centre roles being offshored, saying: "As a proud and passionate New Zealander my preference is to keep roles in NZ, but when the customer service is the same or better and at a much lower cost then it's tough to ignore this option. Just to clarify that in these overseas call centres we pay the agents well based on their local market and cost of living."

We recently heard from a man who received a delayed remaining annual leave entitlement upon his resignation because his manager wouldn't accept a handwritten resignation letter.
If this has happened to you, we'd like to hear from you! What did your letter say? Was it professionally written but still rejected?
What was your manager's reason for rejecting it? What did you do about it?

This is a hardwood table we no longer need, the table top is bowed because it was made with mdf joinery which has swollen in the rain. Strong legs, table top would be easy to replace. Or could be used as is

But KidsCan is helping. Since October they've been delivering five fresh meals a week to 25 early childhood centres, and kitting out kids with new raincoats and shoes. They want to extend the programme, so no one misses out on learning.
KidsCan, Neighbourly and Stuff have partnered up to raise enough money to feed and clothe 1000 more children under five. To support a child, sign up at KidsCan.org.nz.

Claire, 25, and her partner Jay, 22, dined at Cobb & Co two Sundays ago with their children Harper, 6, and six-month-old Arlo.
But before the family had even finished their meals, the bill had already been settled. The mother, who only wanted to be identified as Claire, said the waitress handed them a receipt with the words "a little act of kindness" on the top. Claire said the bill would have probably totalled about $100 and she hoped to find the person who paid for their meals to say thank you. "The restaurant wasn't busy at all maybe three people all together..." she said.
"I briefly remember seeing a dark blonde haired lady in a stripy shirt walk past us and smile as she was walking to the toilet while my fiancé was nursing our son." Later, Claire had asked the waitress if that was the woman who had paid for their meals and it was. But Claire said the woman had asked the waitress not to reveal her name and for the receipt to be handed to the family after she had left the restaurant. Claire said acts of kindness like this made her want to repay the favour. "I am always paying it forward and I never expect it back. I usually give food to the less fortunate and help others when I can, I wasn't expecting to actually receive something so kind back," she said. "I will definitely pay it forward again in the hope of starting a chain reaction and getting more people to help others without expecting it back in return."
