Whole neighborhoods have filled up empty spaces in Auckland in just three years as strong demand for homes grow in the region.

A community group, started in 2008, as a result of the crime around the New Lynn bus centre, prior to the Transport hub being built.
The group, first formed consisted of New Lynn Police, with Sgt. Grant Watson, Michael Alofa from Safe Waitakere, a unit of Waitakere City Council, and Neighbourhood Support.
Have had several community BBQ's with Neighbourhood Support Waitakere, New Lynn Police, Auckland Council through Safe Waitakere.
And not the last, to want to have a car park pothole repaired, which was unnoticed by current Members.
Many have lost the connection, that residents had between their Elected members and Ratepayers and residents.
Council needs to be accountable, and there are MANY issues to bring forward.

But with a growing number of customers getting used to having their dinners delivered to their doorsteps by the likes of Uber Eats and Panda, the night markets will be launching their own app and delivery service. So instead of queuing for food at the night market stalls, customers can order their dinner from up to 150 night market vendors and have the food delivered. The first night market was opened in 2010 at Pakuranga, but has since expanded to seven locations across Auckland and two in Hamilton on different nights of the week.
Night market co-founder Paul de Jonge said the need to launch a food delivery service and Night Market Eats mobile application was "a sign of the times". "Aucklanders are today so used to having the convenience of just pushing the screens of their mobile phones and having their dinner appear on their doorsteps," de Jonge said. "One of the top queries we get is about whether we do deliveries, so we've just got to keep up with it." The service is offered without charge to night market stall holders, de Jonge said, and is also a way to help them grow their business. The range of food on offer at the night markets include squid tentacles, durian pastry, dumplings, hangi, fried noodles, burgers and barbecue skewers. Cuisines range from Chinese, Indian, Filipino, Greek, Hungarian, Maori to Pasifika. "We are looking at how we can best ensure that the food remains fresh and gets delivered to our customers at the quickest possible time," de Jonge said. Jasmine Yao, 28, who developed the mobile app, said customers can order from any number of stalls and pay just one delivery fee. The food is sent to a centralised pick-up point, or the "night market hub", and the delivery driver will pick up and take it to the customer's doorstep. Customers will be able to find the list of stall operators and menus on any given night in the mobile app. "We basically make our money from the rent, so we won't charge our stallholders any more commission on top of what they sell their food for," Yao said. "This is also a way to help us attract even more stallholders in the future."
The app and delivery service will be trialled in late September, early October, Yao said. Information on how to download the app will be released on the Auckland Night Markets Facebook page once it's ready. A frequent user of Uber Eats food delivery service and night market visitor Tom Gibbard, 24, said he was excited about the night market delivery but questioned whether it would work in terms of food quality. "We're not talking pizza or fried chicken here, noodles can get soggy and some Asian buns can become hard as stone when left out for a while," Gibbard said. Another night market regular Dave Takai, 42, said he was unlikely to use the delivery service and would continue to get his dinners at the markets. "The night market isn't just about the food, it's the atmosphere. You can have pizza at home, but you've got to be at the markets to fully enjoy what the food's about.

Children under the age of five already travel free with a paying adult at any time. Tomorrow's extension will not require an accompanying adult. However, the agency said it advises caregivers to supervise younger children. Auckland Mayor Phil Goff said he hoped the free travel would encourage future public transport users. "Making public transport free for under-16s on weekends and public holidays will encourage more people to leave their cars at home and use existing capacity," he said in a statement. "Every person on public transport is one less car on the roads, helping to reduce carbon emissions and traffic congestion."The move is part of a $1.1 million contribution from Auckland Council towards public transport initiatives announced earlier in the year.The initiative was one of several council looked at to increase public transport usage. An Auckland Transport spokesperson said the free weekend fares for under-16s was "the easiest to implement and, at the time, easiest to fund".The spokesperson said the agency was also looking into the commercial feasibility of everyday free public transport for under-16s. Auckland Transport officials expect patronage to increase by 989,000 due to the initiative. Councillors Chris Darby and Richard Hills backed the move. "The cost of public transport is a big barrier to young people and families getting around and connecting," Mr Darby said. Mr Hills said it was a "step forward in making public transport more affordable and accessible for families and young people". Veisinia Maka, chairperson of the council's Youth Advisory Panel, said she was "pleasantly surprised this came through".The panel, which advises council on matters important to youth, had been advocating for affordable and accessible transport options since the start of their term three years ago. Members had discussed the topic with transport executives since then. Ms Maka said she was pleased council was willing to listen to young people. Youth voices were something council had not always considered fully, she said. "I think it's a great start," she said. "Not everything can get changed." She said she was especially happy to hear about the free weekend fares after the introduction of Auckland's regional fuel tax. Ms Maka said she had heard stories of the burden families faced travelling with their children, particularly in lower socio-economic communities. A spokesperson from climate action group Generation Zero said transport agency's latest move was "a significant improvement". "Public transport is an important step in changing our impact on the environment," the group's spokesperson told. However, the spokesperson said council "should go further with greater discounts for students and community service cardholders". "Ideally weekends should have free transport for all," they said. "Cheaper public transport gives [young people] the freedom to move around as is possible in many European and American cities. By making public transit accessible and encouraging these behaviours while young, they grow up understanding and valuing this transport mode." The group campaigned earlier this year for cheaper fares to incentivise public transport use. They said council and AT's capability to implement new pricing mechanisms are limited by the NZTA's 2010 farebox recovery policy. The policy requires fares to cover half of Auckland's public transport operating costs.
