Should the proposed marina on Waiheke Island get the green light?
Construction on Waiheke Island's Kennedy Point marina is to continue after an out of court settlement was made between campaigners and developers.
Four years of court proceedings have been withdrawn by Save Kennedy Point (SKP), after Kennedy Point Boatharbour Limited said they would put the welfare of a little blue penguin colony front of mind.
As part of the settlement, the developers have agreed to forgo all recent costs orders made against SKP and to not seek further costs from them.
SKP was facing bills of almost $250,000 sought by the developers and Auckland Council.
In more recent developments, the group has announced they will hīkoi to Parliament to deliver a petition asking Environment Minister David Parker take the case back to the Environment Court.
The petition, which already has 8500 signatures, was started by Uri o Ngāri Pāoa, who are occupying the beach at Kennedy Point.

A new bridge costing $685 million is to be built for walkers and cyclists crossing Auckland’s Waitematā Harbour.
It is hoped construction can begin mid-2022, in a plan unveiled just five days after cycling lobbyists broke through a police barrier and rode over the existing Harbour Bridge, demanding action.
Transport Minister Michael Wood said once begun, the new structure is expected to take five years to complete, and work will continue on interim use of existing harbour bridge lanes for cycling and walking.
“A stand-alone structure is the safest option that will not only provide a walking and cycling option for commuters but creates an outstanding piece of tourism infrastructure,” said Wood.

This is their response::::
Auckland House has not been externally washed for some time, I believe it has been more than a year since the last building wash happened. Some of the façade external components deteriorate due to the climate and location of the building, so we need to perform a building wash at least once a year to extend the life of the asset
On top of this, the building wash is used to investigate the quality of windows sealant and windows in general, so we can fix leaks and repair where necessary.
We have asked the contractor, Ventia, to ensure they are using the minimum possible amount of water during the building wash. We’ve agreed on few points, as follows:
A flow control valve will be used to decrease the pressure and the amount of water used.
Water is only going to be used once triggered by the technician.
A water meter to measure the quantity used for the building wash.
We believe these activities will reduce the water consumption to the minimum required.
Really building wash every year???? BCs take note this is not a necessary expense on owners - as the rain in Auckland will do the bulk of the job in keeping windows/walls clean .
