Hey neighbours – to ALL of you – who passed by the Kelston Community Centre, Great North Road today - Waitangi Day - between 3:30pm and about 5pm

– PAST the woman with the car broken down in the medium strip – on Waitangi Day

– ALL of you – two lanes - between let’s see – texted my friend from Kelston countdown at 3:52pm – paid for petrol (low petrol light came on after just dropping her off home, just down the road) at 4:59pm – so a HOUR

– more than - HOUR AND A HALF – she told me she had been there for half an hour – told me I was the first one to stop to help

– a LOT of traffic going by - two lanes each side…

- wasn’t me – wasn’t my car – was a fellow kiwi in need

(was complete stranger, now new friend) - lovely woman - Marama

– she said I was the first to stop in half an hour…

what is wrong with the rest of you?? – esp the ones who just beeped!

We got her battery started

(kiwi chicks – we know how to do this ( – and change a tire)

- she had a battery charger – I had jumper leads

– got it started time and time again – revevved it – would just die – in the middle of acceleration - fine - dead - would start - wouldn't start -

- we gave up in the end – (plan B – asking a kiwi bloke for help – failed)

– so plan c – pushed it off the middle of the road through two lanes of traffic

*thank you* to Angela who DID stop at this point and helped us get it through two lanes of traffic – from the middle of the road (on the medium strip)

Yellow lines - on both sides - every direction –

luckily I had lived just there, a few houses up - a few years back –

was actually on the way to visit former neighbour – left it on her property, off the road (since yellow lines) knocked and knocked to ask permission – she wasn’t home (left notes & texted her)

as for the rest of you… esp the ones who just *beeped*...

- I could clearly see her and her car from a distance - we BOTH had our hazard lights on – in medium strip – two lanes - what the….

luckily was going to visit this former neighbour, lovely woman in her 90s – she wasn’t home, left the car outside her place, sent her a text, left a note in her letterbox & left a message under the windscreen for her –

and dropped Marama off home

Had started to write a facebook post this morning before visiting a friend – what it means to be a kiwi – since this is Waitangi Day – to me it means community – helping each other out…

– had written – “we’ve come a long way as a country – still have a long way to go in many ways, we should however give credit where credit is due”

– credit to Marama for her positive attitude in the face of such a challenging situation, kiwi chicks eh! outstanding!

and credit to Angela – older kiwi - pakeha woman - what an angel coming to help – thank you!

As for the rest of you… very disappointed!

First, we look at the foundations of establishing a successful hospitality business -
- the concept
- the important sales to ingredient cost rations
- staffing levels
- profitability behind these costs

SETTING UP
We look at key information regarding the physical setup of a business. Starting with important information from Auckland Council, or your local council, about zoning for a location and approvals for alterations to a building, formulating a food control plan, getting approval for an alcohol licence.
We then look at the equipment you may need to use and commercial kitchen food safety requirements - from refrigeration and extraction systems to types of ovens and coffee machines, flooring and much more.

HOW TO COST
We will discuss look models of how to calculate what you should sell your product for - the retail margins, as well as the cost breakdown as well, has how you are going to pay your self.
Lots to think about and learn in this one day workshop.
Celia Hay, director of the New Zealand School of Food and Wine and hospitality entrepreneur having established 10 different business and has a wealth of knowledge about how to establish and then grow a business. Elton John: Fans entitled to partial refund after Auckland concert cut short

And as fans for tomorrow night's rescheduled show scramble to change their plans, Jetstar said this morning they will move flights free of charge. But some customers were already out of pocket, having been told they had to pay to rebook. John, 72, left the stage in tears about two thirds of the way through Sunday's Mt Smart performance as his voice deserted him. Medical staff rushed to give John, suffering from walking pneumonia, oxygen on stage as he told them he felt dizzy. He eventually had to end the show after hammering out 16 of the 25 songs on his set list. The next Auckland show has been rescheduled from tonight to Wednesday. Thursday's remains the same.
Concert promoter Michael Chugg said those who attended the performance won't get a refund for the shortened performance as John "played over two hours". But Consumer NZ's head of research Jessica Wilson told Newstalk ZB's Mike Hosking this morning that as fans only saw about two thirds of the promised set list, they could be in for a partial refund. "It is a contract. People have bought tickets to an event, the advertiser promised a full Elton John concert, and they only got part of it, they could get a partial refund. People should only pay for what they receive." There was precedent in that concertgoers received refunds when a headline act pulled out from a multi-artist bill, she said.
Her advice was for disgruntled fans to go back to the ticket agent, and if that was not successful they could take their case to the disputes tribunal. "If you have forked out several hundred dollars in the expectation this could be the last chance you get to see Elton John, and you did not get that experience, you might likely think it is worth pursuing." Any refund could be proportional to the experience not received, so in this case about a third, Wilson said. According to the Ticketmaster website, all sales were final and there were no refunds, exchanges or cancellations except when required by law. People can also submit a refund request through the website. Air New Zealand said it has introduced special fare flexibility to those affected by the rescheduling of the Tuesday show. "As a gesture of goodwill, Air New Zealand is offering customers affected by this change the opportunity to defer travel plans by one day without cost by calling its contact centre," Air New Zealand said in a statement. "The airline will waive any service fees or fare difference associated with moving the booking."
Passengers who no longer want to travel can choose to the hold the value of their fare in credit for up to 12 months. Service fees will be waived but any fare difference will apply. And a Jetstar spokesperson said this morning that anyone with a ticket for the rescheduled gig could move their flight free of charge. But earlier, a fan, Lorraine, told she and her husband had initially been informed by Jetstar they had to cover the cost of rescheduling their return flights from Wellington themselves, which was about $900. Instead, they forfeited the return flights and purchased two new ones for about $300, but also had to pay for an extra night's accommodation and take another day off work. "My husband phoned them yesterday, as soon as we found out. They said we would have to pay for the transfer. "There will be a lot of people who had to change flights yesterday... and paid that extra money. They should have [announced it] straight away." John, who had earlier needed medical assistance while on stage, broke down in tears on Sunday evening and needed to be assisted from the stage after attempting to launch into Daniel. Walking pneumonia is an infection caused by bacteria that primarily affects an individual's lower and upper respiratory tract. The condition is not as severe as the other forms of pneumonia and in most cases hospitalisation and bed rest are not required for recovery. It goes unnoticed and feels similar to the common cold for most individuals. Fans praised John's work ethic on social media, thanking him for giving the performance all he had. "Sir Elton John, what a great concert," wrote one. "Very sad to see you leave but the concert was amazing, you did the best you could." John later reached out to fans, thanking them for their support and saying he was upset that he could not complete the show. "I played and sang my heart out, until my voice could sing no more. I'm disappointed, deeply upset and sorry. I gave it all I had. Thank you so much for your extraordinary support and all the love you showed me during tonight's performance. I am eternally grateful."
