Six of our NZQA Diploma Cookery students signed up for the New Zealand Hospitality Championships – previously known as the Culinary Fare run by the New Zealand Chefs Association at the recent Hospitality Hui held on on September 19, 2022.

Planning took place over the previous six weeks where the students formulated their dish concepts. Practical cooking sessions enabled them to test and try out their culinary ideas and refine their dishes.

These efforts were boosted by the reflections of our Head Chef Finn Gybel and his stories of when he had competed in Denmark nearly 20 years ago. Back then, our Chef Finn was sous chef to René Redzepi, now rated as one of the great chefs of the world.

As a result, we won 1 Gold, 2 Silver and 2 Bronze medals.

Based on the low voter turnouts most people don’t care much about local government elections but these elections have more to do with people’s everyday lives than central government elections. They cover our footpaths, local roads and parks which you interact with more on a daily basis.

I can understand peoples lack of interest. It is time consuming to find out information on candidates and some people find the complexity of all the roles and votes too much. It’s not like central government where information is in the news daily. Due to these difficulties, most voters resort to voting based on the political “colours’ they know, old names they recognize or not voting at all.

Hopefully people take the time to find out about the candidates, where they live, how long they have lived there and what they actually stand for.

Good sites to check out about candidates are their Facebook pages or:

www.aucklandcouncil.govt.nz...

Or

policy.nz...

This website covers understanding how council works :

Voting is open until Saturday October 8th midday. Free postal votes need to be sent by next Monday October 3rd or you can drop them off at dropped off at libraries, some train stations, Countdown supermarkets or council service centres. If you haven’t received your voting papers you can call 0800 367656.

Goodness me I thought, here we go again, an IPCA investigation has begun against the police for alleged police brutality whilst apprehending some youths in a stolen car.
I’m not going to talk about whether the police were right or wrong, I want to mention the person(s) who laid the complaint ‘on behalf of’! Who are these anonymous do-gooders that take it upon themselves to complain about every perceived offence that has apparently occured?
It seems that NZ has its fair-share of these people who make ‘media’ complaints because they want to be offended ‘on behalf of’ the so-called offended person whether or not that person is actually offended. Give me strength!
Let’s have some more detail in the media explaining who is laying these complaints. No personal details are necessary just let us know if it’s the offenders that are laying the complaints or some busy-body with nothing else to do.

Kia ora neighbours, a young West Auckland couple have fulfilled a dream they’ve had since high school by designing and building their own tiny home.

Eujenne Claxton and Laurin Buch, both 23, are about to move into their new home in Titirangi.

Claxton said what had really stood out to the couple about living in a tiny home was being able to live more sustainably and debt-free.

“In today’s housing market, it’s proving nearly impossible to afford a deposit for a home before the age of 30. This was an opportunity to afford a home before the age of 25 with no debt attached.”
