“If I hear music, I just want to dance – body seems to just move!” says dancer Audrey, 84. Poet Brian, 86, says “Poetry helps me to question and understand the meaning of life”, followed by a witty “– haven’t worked out what it means yet”.

Guided ecology walks, forest restoration, kai & live music!


Come along and learn about how we can protect our last remaining wild places. This is a day to gain a deeper understanding of our natural world and the steps we can take to restore and protect it. However, the information provided is not specific to the local area, so all welcome.

Meet: 1 Duck Creek Road
When: 10am - 1pm
What to bring:
• Sensible footwear
• Long pants
• Gloves (if you have, otherwise they will be provided)


The guided walks will pass through various ecosystems and there will be an opportunity to learn easy techniques for invasive plant removal, in order to help protect remnant forests. There will be advise regarding invasive plant eradication on your own properties.

More whales stranded in Northland

Four more whales have been stranded in Northland overnight. After volunteers worked all night, one of the whales has died and two remain stranded.

The last two whales are being monitored closely and no public help is needed at this time.

Ata Hira: Museum on the Move is a fun and interactive family exhibition which looks at the life and perspectives of the high priest and navigator Tupaia, including life in Tahiti, on board the Endeavour and his arrival to Aotearoa.

Drawn from our exhibition Voyage to Aotearoa: Tupaia and the Endeavour, it features dress ups, card games, touch screens, short films and more. We'll be at this year’s Pasifika Festival, Sat 14 – Sun 15 March, 10am to 4pm at Western Springs Park.
