This stunning one-off sculptural embroidery is handmade in NZ and inspired by one of three moho pererū (banded rails) raised and rehabilitated by BirdCare Aotearoa.
The three banded rails were admitted to BirdCare Aotearoa as hatchlings. On arrival, they weighed only 10 grams. Two arrived in very unstable condition but with the dedicated care of the BirdCare Aotearoa team, they grew into strong, healthy birds and were released at a predator-controlled site this week.
This auction will raise money for a native species habitat which will help ensure the successful rehabilitation of banded rails, kōtare (sacred kingfisher) and other native species – giving them the best chance of release into the wild where they belong.
Please show your love for NZ wildlife and support BirdCare Aotearoa’s life-saving work by bidding generously. Not only will you be directly helping wildlife, you will also get the chance to have this beautiful and unique artwork in your own home.
Artwork details:
* One-off original, beautifully capturing the rail in his juvenile stage.
* Handmade in Cathy’s studio, the piece is made up of hundreds of tiny stitches, made on a sewing machine, and finished by hand embroidery.
* Professionally framed in a white frame with high grade glass (ultimate clarity, reduced reflection and 99% UV protection).
* Size: 22cm x 22cm x 4.5cm deep.
100% of the proceeds will go directly to BirdCare Aotearoa, supporting them to continue caring for banded rails and other wild birds.

We've all seen them, no seat belts, all the head down while they think we can't see them on their phones - oh bring on the end date for the trial period - YAY!!!
From tomorrow, across three Auckland locations, we're trialing safety cameras to get a better understanding of how many people drive while using their mobile phones, and how many people don’t wear their seatbelts. This trial is the first of its kind in Aotearoa New Zealand.
While these are well-known issues, we don’t currently have accurate information about the scale of them. The six-month trial will provide useful insight as well as test the technology itself.
A key part of Road to Zero, New Zealand’s road safety strategy, involves supporting people to make good choices on our roads, which includes encouraging people to not use their phones while driving, and making sure everyone is wearing a seatbelt.
No enforcement action will be taken during the trial. No drivers will receive infringement notices, warnings, or any other communication from Waka Kotahi as a result of the trial. All images taken will be deleted within 48 hours, with a small number of anonymised images kept for reporting purposes. For more on the trial, visit www.nzta.govt.nz...

Through developing confidence, employability skills, English skills, and sustainability ideals, these women can integrate effectively and happily back into the community. Profits from preloved clothing, eco products and upcycled goods sold in the Sustinnoworx store go directly to supporting the housing and reintegration of these women.
