Are you a landlord with vacant property?

Caroline Williams Reporter from North Shore Times

We recently reported on a Torbay landlord who after a quick supermarket trip found teenagers planning a party inside his vacant rental property. Let us know in the comments if you have had a similar experience, or you can email me at caroline.williams@stuff.co.nz. Please put NFP if you don't want your comment to be published.

Police aren't aware of a spike in rental property break-ins on the North Shore, but suggest that landlords:
• Keep windows and doors locked
• Maintain a "lived-in" appearance on empty properties
• Keep trees and bushes tidy so burglars can't hide in them
• Use good quality locks and a reputable locksmith
• Install sensor lights
• Keep garden sheds and garages secure.
