The old toilet and changing room block at Milford Reserve is earmarked for a facelift.

Work is expected to start in mid-April to replace the longstanding brick building with a modern building.

The $1.2 million project will see eight new toilets, two showers, a double external shower, two changing rooms, a drinking station and a new seating area.

The building will have a beach-themed exterior in response to community feedback.

The old brick building had served users well but had reached the end of its life, said Devonport Takapuna Local Board chair Aidan Bennett.

“In 2018 we sought feedback from the community on what they would like to see here so I am sure everyone is excited to see it get underway.”

The areas will be fenced off during construction and four portaloos will be installed in the reserve for public use.

Construction is expected to take about three months, pending weather conditions.

Congestion charge for Onewa Road?
The NZ Parliament is currently consulting on a proposal for congestion charges for Auckland. Submissions can be made online and close on Thursday 20 May 2021.
Parliament are wanting to know your views on different congestion charge options, such as when entering the city centre, or using "strategic corridors". They are proposing to start rolling out these charges when the City Rail Link opens.
To me it appears from the attached map that Parliament are suggesting that the lower North Shore could be included in Phase 1 (2025) or Phase 2 (2028) of the roll-out. Does that mean that they are proposing congestion charges for Onewa Road and Lake Road (Takapuna/Devonport)?
Please have your say on whether or not you support being charged to travel to/from the city centre, and to use "strategic corridors" which may include Onewa Road and Lake Road.

Auckland Transport have confirmed that there will be 17 "transit lane zones" that will be monitored by cameras - 9 heading towards the city and 8 heading towards Birkenhead.

Each zone will contain one unit of 4 cameras, making a total of 68 cameras on Onewa Road!

Each unit includes:
* 1x scene camera (monitors whether the vehicle travelled the whole zone; sometimes it will also look at the transit lane sign for evidential purposes)
* 1x sign camera to monitor the transit lane sign if the scene camera cannot see the sign (in some instances this may be mounted on a street light pole opposite the unit)
* One relocatable pole mounted camera housing, containing:
- 1x side occupant camera (looks at the side of the vehicle to determine how many occupants are in the car)
- 1x front occupant camera (looks at the car approaching the unit, collects number plate details, and also confirms occupants in front seats).

This week Auckland Transport have been investigating sites on the City to Birkenhead side of the road for transit lane cameras.

Meanwhile, we should be hearing from Auckland Transport on the results of the clearway consultation around May.

Hi neighbours!

After more than a year of closed borders, Australians and New Zealanders will soon be able to jet-hop between countries after the government announced that the trans-Tasman travel bubble will be operational from April 19.

With quarantine-free travel now possible, are you more likely to head across the Tasman or travel domestically?

Fronting Australian media yesterday, Jacinda Ardern not only spoke of the excitement of families being able to be reunited, but also pitched New Zealand tourist activities to Australian viewers.

"If there is a hot spot in one of the states of Australia we may just act in the same way that another state would ... Just prepare that there may be disruptions, but what better place in the world to be stuck. Am I right?," she said.

The trans-Tasman bubble will operate on a three tier basis: Continue, Pause and Suspend. If there are a few cases in Australia linked to the border, quarantine-free travel will continue. Travel may be paused for 72 hours if there are rogue community cases and in the instance of a state or nationwide lockdown, travel will be suspended.
