I wondered why it was visible in the daytime, and also whether they need large old trees with holes for their nests.
Apparently they hunt mainly in the early night and early morning, and sometimes at dusk and dawn, particularly in bad weather. And they nest in any tree large enough to have hollows.
There are some excellent recordings and photos....including one in Hillcrest, and one in Mairangi Bay...at ebird.org...

This role entails sitting with the children, having a chat while they eat and handing out some creative activities to do for those who are fast eaters! Afterwards, weather permitting, volunteers take the children to the field adjacent to Mairangi Arts Centre and keep an eye on them while they burn off some energy.
Requirements:
Reliable, enjoy being around children, kind, caring. No Police record.
Date periods : 3-7 July and 10-13 July
Time Commitment
Shifts start at 11.30am for approximately two hours. If you can only help one day that's fine, any assistance is appreciated.
Complimentary Milo, cookie and sandwich provided on the day for those that can assist us.
