An entertaining musical walk down memory lane with Larry Small and Warren Lambert, and new music by Ema I’u, feature on tomorrow’s She’ll Be Right on Saturdays Show with PJ Taylor, 3pm to 7pm (NZ time, July 22) on East FM.
Larry Small was on the show in April talking about his life in music entertainment and we’ve invited him back as guest DJ tomorrow. During Larry’s segment we’ll play music that was influential in his career, and we’re also putting the spotlight on one of his mates from a golden era of show bands in NZ, Warren Lambert, who we’ll be talking live with at 4pm.
Ema I’u is an Auckland-based musician and creative and amongst many interesting activities is doing great work with Holding Space Aotearoa. She’s got a new single out, Top Shelf, which we’ll debut on East FM, and chat with her at 5.30pm.
Warren Lambert, who also had a distinguished career in education, had a solo pop-singing career in the 1960s, dubbed ‘NZ’s Gene Pitney’.
He had records released on the Impact and Allied International labels, and toured nationally with shows featuring Larry’s Rebels, Peter Posa, The Chicks, Mr Lee Grant, and other 60s’ TV and NZ pop stars, including on Brian East’s Review 66 TV show.
Warren also performed for many years in a successful duo with another ‘60s Northland music legend, Kevin Jobbitt; made appearances on weekly TV show The Country Touch; and sang for 14 years with Arthur Skelton’s Dance Band Orchestra, playing at Peter Pan, Orange and Mandalay Ballrooms.
Ema I'u ( Ema Barton ) ( www.emaiu.com... ) has been involved in the arts for more than two decades, and for the past eight years she’s worked as a full-time musician, performing at festivals and on cruises as a soloist, as well as with successful cover bands Lucky May and Coco-Rocky. Having received a NZ On Air New Music Development Grant, as well as the New Music Pasifika Grant, Ema recently released her debut single Midnight Mistress and is working towards her debut album.
She says of new single Top Shelf: “This is an empowerment song. If someone is not giving you the love or attention you need, just get out there and have your own fun. Remember that you are Top Shelf, and deserve to have a good time. Mmm hmm.”

East FM is East Auckland’s fair-dinkum community-powered public service radio station, on 88.1FM and 107.1FM on local frequencies, nationally and globally at www.eastfm.nz... and on app iHeart Radio.
She’ll Be Right - it’s all about the vibe; it’s all about the groove. And tomorrow we’re remembering the past and looking to the future. – PJ
