Pensioner will stay despite gang neighbours: Beach Haven, Auckland

Caryn Wilkinson Reporter from Community News

An 82-year-old woman is standing strong in the face of gang neighbours in her Beach Haven street.

The pensioner says she is not going to move from her North Shore home of 50 years.

She is among a group of residents on Lancaster Rd in Auckland disgruntled with noise and intimidation after gangs moved into a row of mostly state houses across the road.

Things settled down recently after police impounded several motorcycles belonging to Lancaster Rd residents following a huge funeral procession on the North Shore for a Tribesman gang member killed in a crash.

What do you think can be done to keep the peace between residents and gang neighbours?

Poll: Do you think banning gang patches is reasonable?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

With the government cracking down on gangs, it is now illegal for gang members to display their insignia in public places whether through clothing or their property.

This means arrests can be made if these patches are worn in places like restaurants, shops, on public transport or ferries, and on airplanes. Arrests were made recently at a funeral.

Do you think this ban is reasonable?
