Unfortunately Monday's official opening of the new Te Onewa Northcote Wharf and the start of the Northcote ferry service have both been postponed. However the changes to the Birkenhead ferry service will begin.
Auckland Transport have said that the delay is due to the weather conditions last week that prevented the completion of ferry trials, and the confirmed case of COVID-19 transmission in lower Northland.

UPDATE: Unfortunately Monday's official opening of the new Te Onewa Northcote Wharf and the start of the Northcote ferry service have both been postponed.

Northcote Point wharf was due to reopen to the public on Monday and the ferry was set to be running again for the first time in two years.

The wharf has been renamed to Te Onewa Northcote Point, making it the first dual-named wharf on Auckland's ferry network.

It was closed in 2018 due to structural deterioration- the wooden structure under the deck had to be either repaired or replaced.

The $2.6 million work to renew the 60-year-old pier started in July and finished at the end of the year under budget despite the disruption caused by Covid-19.

Auckland Transport also upgraded the shelter for ferry users, installed new seating, improved security and lighting at the quay.
