📣 We are closing all non-essential services across the region on Monday 13 and Tuesday 14 February as the region prepares for Cyclone Gabrielle.

❌ This includes libraries, community centres, early childhood education centres, and active recreation centres.
✅ Only critical regulatory services activities, such as building assessments, will continue to take place.
✅ Essential services, such as our contact centres and cemeteries, will remain open.
➡️ We are redirecting our staff to support the CDCs and evacuation shelters.

Many in Beach Haven have been very concerned about the recent proposal for 81 dwellings at 96 Beach Haven Rd/13 Cresta Ave, when the site is zoned single house zone. The public meeting in January attracted 180 local people who were not opposed to development at the site, but very concerned at the … View moreMany in Beach Haven have been very concerned about the recent proposal for 81 dwellings at 96 Beach Haven Rd/13 Cresta Ave, when the site is zoned single house zone. The public meeting in January attracted 180 local people who were not opposed to development at the site, but very concerned at the unexpected scale of the proposal, the inadequate local infrastructure and the numerous breaches of the Auckland Unitary Plan.
In the attached PDF is the official feedback on the proposal from the Kaipātiki Local Board. We believe that it makes a mockery of the city being able to plan properly for growth.
It is a significant infringement of such magnitude that we have been left asking "what is the point of the Unitary Plan, Residential Zones or indeed any development rules, if they could be discarded to this extent?"
- Submissions are now closed and we are waiting for a date for a hearing.

The recent storm and floods resulted in a large number of slips in our bush reserves that have damaged tracks, boardwalks and bridges. Some tracks and structures may not be made safe or repaired for some … View moreThe recent storm and floods resulted in a large number of slips in our bush reserves that have damaged tracks, boardwalks and bridges. Safety assessments are underway and fencing, tape and signage is currently being installed. Some tracks and structures may not be made safe or repaired for some time, so please stay safe and avoid bush tracks where possible. This includes for students when travelling to and from school next week.
The following are parks where we are aware that there is damage. If you are aware of any others, please report to 09 3010101 and comment below. I will keep this post up-to-date:
* Birkenhead War Memorial Park (slip on service lane below carpark)
* Chelsea Estate Heritage Park (multiple slips and damaged tracks)
* Eskdale Reserve Network (slip near Kaipatiki Road entrance blocking the track; two slips between Lauderdale Reserve bridge and Stephanie Close which are at the edge of the track; slip to the south of Lauderdale Reserve bridge blocking the track; tree down on track from Stephanie Close)
* Fern Glen Native Plant Garden (tracks damaged)
* Fred Andersen Reserve (track from Valhallah Drive to Island Bay blocked by slip)
* Glendhu Scenic Reserve (multiple slips on informal track from Glendhu Rd bridge)
* Hadfield Street Reserve (slip onto beach)
* Hellyers Creek Reserve (slip at edge of track behind Packham Place; slip blocking track to the south of Paragon Ave entrance)
* Hilders Park (slip below viewing platform; slip onto driveway to wharf)
* Hinemoa Park (slips affecting both the Tizard Rd and Bridge View tracks)
* Island Bay Reserve (trees on road, several slips along cliffs)
* Kauri Glen Reserve/Cecil Easdy Reserve (trees blocking path; damaged steps)
* Kauri Point Centennial Park (bridge washed 5m down hill)
* Kauri Point Domain
* Lauderdale Reserve (tree across bridge)
* Leigh Scenic Reserve (slip destroyed track between Anne McLean Drive and Lynn Reserve; slip near Morriggia Place)
* Le Roys Bush Reserve (closed; extensive damage to boardwalk and track due to multiple slips)
* Linley Reserve (path surface washed away in places)
* Little Shoal Bay Reserve (slip onto tennis court; boat ramp destroyed)
* Manuka Reserve (some track damage)
* Onepoto Domain (slips and trees across bush track)
* Rangatira Reserve (slip between 30-32 Lanigan St, possibly affecting the stairs to Fordham St; track slipped between Kia Ora Rd and Taurus Cres; bridge between Gatman Street and Kauri Park Primary possibly unsafe)
* Rosecamp Rd Reserve/Charcoal Bay (multiple slips)
* Shepherds Park (tree across track and multiple slips near track between lookout and carpark)
* Telephone Rd Reserve/Chelsea Bay (slips at both entrances)
* Tuff Crater Reserve (closed; multiple slips and track damage)
* Tui Park (slip to beach area)
* Verrans Gully Reserve (multiple slips)
* Witheford Scenic Reserve/Kaipatiki Esplanade Reserve (sinkhole adjacent to Kaipatiki Road; track from Witheford Drive to Beach Haven Rd damaged; stairs and track from Valecrest Place boggy adn wasked out; multiple slips on track between Pemberton Ave entrance and Manuka Rd).

We encourage our Tāmaki Makaurau whānau to use this time to get prepared.
With potential for heavy rain and strong winds, surface flooding and slips are possible and strong wind gusts could damage trees, powerlines and unsecured structures.
How to get prepared:
1. Stay up to date with the latest weather warnings from MetService: www.metservice.com...
2. Make a household plan that includes your pets, in case you need to evacuate.
3. Have a grab bag with essential items ready to go.
4. Be prepared for possible power outages and check emergency supplies. In a storm you could be stuck at home for up to three days.
5. Clear debris and leaves from drains and gutters to help prevent surface flooding.
6. Secure items like wheelie bins, trampolines, outdoor furniture, boats and trailers. Bring items inside or tie items down that could move in strong winds.
7. Check on your friends, whānau, neighbours and anyone who might need your help, especially those who have already been affected by recent flooding.
