Should Queen Street be car-free?
Major roading upgrades are set to get underway on Queen Street which the council says will improve pedestrian spaces.
The work is set to begin on Monday between Shortland and Customs streets, limiting traffic to a single lane each way and with bus priority in the evening peak.
Some have expressed their concerns for the project including a group of businesses and landlords calling itself Save Queen. The group applied for an interim injunction to halt the council's planned Queen St upgrade and a High Court Judge will decide whether to approve the injunction later today.
Should the upgrade go even further and ban passenger vehicles altogether? Let us know in the comments and don't forget to type NFP if you don't want your comment used in your local community paper.

Students Nikita Sharma, Celia Lee and Jenny Zhong were chosen to design and paint one panel of the three-section mural after an invitation by Study Auckland.
The goal was to give international students the chance to work with renound artists Ross Liew, Hana Maihi of Ngati Whatua Orakei and Te Whetu Collective member Poi Ngawati and experience crafting public art.
The other two panels have been painted by Maihi and Ngawati to create awareness of the rich Māori heritage on which the city was founded.
The three panels depict the importance of welcoming different cultures in Tamaki Makaurau and Te Tōangaroa, an area spanning from the end of Britomart to The Strand.
The biodiversity that once characterised the cultural landscape of Te Tōangaroa and Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei’s history as mana whenua of Tāmaki have also been highlighted in the mural design.
Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei Whai Rawa cultural design executive Mei Hill said other Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei initiatives were planned to reinvigorate the cultural footprint of Te Tōangaroa.
“Sharing the journey of Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei through art is just the beginning of how we intend to bring to life the masterplan for Te Tōangaroa. Our vision is a space where the people of Tāmaki can come together and enjoy and respect the culture and environment this city and its people have to offer,” Hill said.

We tend to the constructive and consultative approach to advocate for residents - and what's good for residents is usually good for everyone else - obviously!
Residents 'demands' are simple & utterly reasonable - follow thru on the widely consulted City Centre Masterplan & progress a city-inspiring vision endorsed by all reasonable stakeholders & from the entire City Centre Advisory Board, unanimously & continuously since 2012.
Have your say on some of the details proposed to kick things off & get things moving again - before 7 May here:

Its owners, the United Church of Tonga, claim the land’s significance as home to the first Tongan congregation in New Zealand is being neglected by Auckland Council, in favour of its history as an orphanage, preventing the site from being developed.
Because of the building's status as a category one historic place and a stalemate with Auckland Council, Carlile House cannot be repaired or demolished.
However, the situation has recently become of higher concern to both parties, following the recent partial collapse of the building’s roof.

Recurring temporary booze bans are in place for all major events at Eden Park, concerts at Mount Smart Stadium, Christmas in the Park and the Lantern Festival in Auckland.
The council's governing body has voted to amend the Alcohol Control Bylaw 2014 to put a stop to alcohol for all major events at Mount Smart Stadium, Western Springs stadium and outer fields, Auckland Domain, Auckland Zoo's carpark, Te Papapa train station and any future fan trails to events where booze is forbidden.
Councillor Josephine Bartley said the proposed changes were about protecting our communities.
"Improving temporary major event alcohol bans will stop people drinking alcohol irresponsibly on their way to, at or after a major event and help prevent the associated disorder that occurs as a result.
"People should be able to attend these wonderful events that bring vibrancy to our city without having to worry about encountering anti-social behaviour caused by groups of people binge drinking."
Bartley said the improvements helped make it safer for people to travel to events on public transport and would prevent the problem from being shifted elsewhere.
Nearly 900 people gave their feedback on the proposed changes, which come into effect on June 1.
