This week, we were very happy to host a graduation luncheon for the students, families and friends of the Advanced Level 4 programme and Level 5 Diploma Chefs.

The Diploma chefs achievement comes after nearly TWO years of chopping, preparing and cooking and many tests and assignments and a bunch of hard work plus some serious determination and the privilege of remote cooking through FOUR Lockdowns!

The Advanced Level 4 chefs started in June 2020 and worked through their programme with only THREE lockdowns and remote cooking. Needless to say, we are delighted to be able to award these qualifications after what can only be described as a roller-coasted period.

The menu included Gratinated Snapper with mushroom, spinach with Sauce Hollandaise, Pigeon Bay lamb with corn, polenta, baked cherry tomatoes and basil and Crêpe with raspberry parfait and vanilla cream to finish.

The draft Regional Land Transport Plan is out and the Glenvar Rd realignment project has been included!!
We did hope that this would be the case when more funding for the project was approved last year after my presentation to the Auckland Transport Board and after your 1000+ submissions to the emergency budget on the importance of the project.
The good news is that the RLTP lists Glenvar Road as a priority project for construction to begin in 2021/22, which isn’t too far behind the original schedule.

The draft RLTP is open for feedback until 2 May. I will be resubmitting the 2000+ submissions I gathered from you all in 2018 when we last went through this process. If you didn’t submit last time - please click on this post or head to: at.govt.nz...

Let them know how important this essential safety is!

Poll: Should all Auckland shops be allowed to trade on Easter Sunday?

Caryn Wilkinson Reporter from Community News

Restrictions on trading over Easter have frustrated Auckland retailers desperate for business in the wake of four Covid-19 lockdowns.

Only shops selling certain goods can legally trade on Easter Sunday, and those breaching conditions can be fined up to $1000.

But Auckland Mayor Phil Goff says critics have left it too late, as the process to change trading rules can take over a year.

Local government has had the power to rule on whether retailers can open on Easter Sunday since the National government passed the responsibility down in 2016.

Prior to this, only shops that sell necessities, such as dairies, service stations, and pharmacies, were given exemptions to trade.

Thirty-nine of the country’s 67 councils have created bylaws to date allowing retailers to open if they want, but Auckland, Wellington, and other major centres remain opposed.

Newmarket Business Association chief executive Mark Thomas said the restrictions are “ridiculous and out of date”.

“There are so many discrepancies in the law it seems a bit ludicrous,” he said.

During Easter, you want to enjoy the activities, but it’s essential to protect your dental health. With a bit of foresight, you can enjoy sweet treats without spoiling your smile. However, foods to completely avoid with braces include:popcornnutsicechewing gumhard candychewy candypizza crustbagels and other hard rollscrunchy vegetables and fruitshard crackerspretzelschipsWhenever you eat something sugary, it feeds bacteria in your mouth, allowing them to produce acid that weakens and damages your tooth enamel, eventually causing cavities. So, while the occasional sweet treat is OK, limit yourself to only a few sugary foods and beverages a week.Above all, make sure you take the time to brush your teeth thoroughly twice daily or more frequently as possible and floss at least once each day. What can we do to make you smile?Enjoy your long Happy Easter WeekendClaudia, Lutz & Team
