The grants help fund projects that promote the inclusion and contribution of older people in community life, and support communities to prepare for an ageing population.
The fund makes one-off grants of up to $15,000. The grants are open to any New Zealand council, community organisation, or registered non-profit organisation. Applications for our current funding round close on 9 October.
Our last funding round was a huge success and helped fund a range of different projects across the country, that had focuses like reducing loneliness and social isolation of older people, developing an age-friendly community plan and supporting people with dementia.
With the right planning and support, we can create environments where older people are valued, connected and able to participate in their community.

It was a wonderful opportunity to see them grow in their understanding of how to use… View moreCongratulations on our Senior folks who graduated last week on the Technology Course for Seniors Module 1.
A basic but valuable for those that find their mobile phones intimidating and the technology frightening. It was a wonderful opportunity to see them grow in their understanding of how to use their smartphones, and laptops to navigate the Apps and Photos, to become confident and by the end of the course fluent with their phones.
Take a look at some of their comments and how they felt about the course and how they overcame their initial fear of using their phones during the course below:
Elaine (Aged 68)
"The course was an uncomplicated and practical introduction on how to navigate my smartphone and laptop. Gavin taught me how to maximise my smartphone and to download Apps for my phone, like WhatsApp, Google Photos, Zoom and more. Every lesson was accompanied by detailed notes. This is a course for everyone regardless of ability and I completed the course feeling more confident and with a desire to still learn more. Thanks Gavin!"
Frank (Aged 70)
"Gavin is able to communicate his knowledge of IT with us "Oldies" in a simplified manner that we can understand and at a pace that takes the course attendees along for the journey. Those that may find it a bit difficult get extra attention. No note taking during the course is necessary as Gavin provides comprehensive notes via email after each lesson. We do a lot of our learning by doing "Hands On" with his supervision to guide us. All in all, a very worthwhile course."

"This course covered all the basic areas for the use of a smartphone, tablets and laptops. We learnt how to use Apps on our smartphones, the technology and technical terminologies related to our devices. There is ample time to ask questions and get help if you need it. I would recommend this course to anyone needing help to learn the basics of how to use their smartphone, tablet or laptop."

New wider pavements, timber seating, and stonework walls in the finished sections hope to turn the area into a pedestrian-friendly retail boulevard within Takapuna’s town centre.
Construction now begins near Hurstmere Green, the heart of Hurstmere Road that will connect Takapuna’s beach with a future boulevard and new town square being delivered by Panuku Development Auckland by 2021.
North Shore Councillor Richard Hills said it was an exciting milestone to reach for the long-anticipated project.
“The Hurstmere Road transformation is on its way to delivering a greener and more people-friendly space for Takapuna,” he said.
“Not only will the project result in an improved retail destination for locals and visitors, but importantly, ageing infrastructure like the road, mains water and stormwater pipes will receive a much-needed upgrade at the same time.”
Hurstmere Road is now a one-way road for north-bound traffic between Lake Road and Anzac Street with a safer speed limit of 30km. The upgrade will also include a new cycle path. The reduction of vehicle dominance will make it more accessible for both pedestrians and cyclists. South-bound traffic now travels along Anzac Street and Lake Road.
The works include new stormwater rain gardens set in native plantings that will be located along the road. They have been carefully designed to collect rainwater and filter out street pollutants that currently discharge directly into the sea.
We are currently working to make it easier for Aucklanders to install a rainwater tank without a resource consent. If this is something you are interested in:
