With the postponement of our much anticipated 125th Anniversary celebration this Sunday and the lockdown in place we will showcase a little of the house, room by room over the coming days and let you know a little about its history and how we use it today.

Caccia Birch House was designed by Danish architect Ludolf Georg West and still stands on its original site.

The original home cost a little under 900 pounds to build.

It was one of the first large houses erected in the city and was built for Jacob Nannestad and his family.

Nannestad was a Norwegian immigrant and a partner in the Richter, Nannestad and Jensen sawmilling firm, which was engaged in clearing bush in the wider Hokowhitu area at the time.

Until the nation moves to at least alert level 2, elderly people will not have the freedom to do many of the daily tasks we take for granted. And the risk to their health and wellbeing will increase.

Enliven’s Wellbeing Assistance team are making sure the older people in your community have everything they need to be well.

We are finding that they need the most practical items:
- Food
- Personal hygiene products, including continence products
- Heaters and warm clothing as winter sets in
- Personal safety alarms (in case of a fall, they can instantly request help)
- Regular phone calls for companionship and safety

You can ensure that food and essential supplies are delivered to older people in your community.

hi guys ..I am a little confused by what was publicized as a safety precaution when shopping in supermarkets. That 1 in and 1 out policy?
The other day I went to get some groceries, first time since the lockdown.
I queued up ..there were only a few of us and I thought to myself, thats good...there was a gazebo outside New World Pioneer Hyway , another plus point... How nice of the shop ...then the woman at the entrance said we could ALL go in ...
To my surprise, there was quite a crowd of shoppers inside already. It was difficult to keep the 2 m distance ..... I was in and out in 30 minutes. If there was a sick person inside, we would all be infected ...
I wish the shop would not let so many people in at the same time ..I would feel safer ...
Or was I being paranoid? what do you think?

Hi there Neighbours!

With numerous gigs, concerts and festivals postponed or cancelled as a result of the level 4 response, we want you to dance the lockdown away with the new Neighbourly Spotify Playlist! Make your suggestions in the comments below - recommend anything you like on there, as well as tunes you think your Neighbours will enjoy. Chuck in some taste-breakers, one-hit wonders or some good old Kiwi classics - it really doesn’t matter. So if you’re running out of ideas on things to do, why not a dance party?

Just remember: keep it PG, refrain from putting any songs in the mix that may cause offence to your Neighbours. You can find the playlist here.

Happy raving NZ!
