Amberley pool upgrade gets green light after years of debate
The Hurunui District Council agreed at its meeting last week to redevelop the town’s existing pool.
The pool will be heated, and new changing rooms, toilets and showers will be constructed at the north end of the facility. Access for older and disabled swimmers will be improved, and pods for parents and toddlers will be built.
The development will cost $2 million, and the council agreed last week that it would contribute $1.5m. The rest would be fundraised.

Poll: Do you think banning gang patches is reasonable?
With the government cracking down on gangs, it is now illegal for gang members to display their insignia in public places whether through clothing or their property.
This means arrests can be made if these patches are worn in places like restaurants, shops, on public transport or ferries, and on airplanes. Arrests were made recently at a funeral.
