The Event is always held on the 3rd Sunday of the month at 8.00am (9.00am Daylight Saving Time). Except in October 2023 when it will fall on the 4th Sunday.

Join us in commemorating a significant milestone as we celebrate the 20th birthday of the Mahoe Native Reserve. This special event marks two decades of dedicated conservation efforts restoring our natural heritage.
It will be an afternoon of exploration and discovery at the Reserve. This event offers an opportunity to learn about the Reserve's fascinating history and ongoing conservation efforts. From its humble beginnings as a gravel pit, the Reserve has transformed into a thriving ecosystem and a living laboratory for native flora and fauna.
Guided Walk: Explore the native bush as a guide leads you on a walk through the Reserve. Discover the diverse range of plant species, spot native birds, and learn about the importance of preserving this habitat.
Living Laboratory: Take part in activities that will give you an insight into the Reserve's role as a living laboratory for research and conservation. Understand how schools and conservation scientists use the Reserve to study the ecosystem and gather data, that can be used to protect other natural areas.
Refreshments: Take a break and enjoy a delightful afternoon tea in the surroundings of the Reserve. Relax, socialise, and reflect.

You will be provided with training and then assigned a Mentor who will help you through those first weeks. We don’t expect you to know everything about everything but have an amazing website of information for you to refer to (see under ‘Read More).
We have intakes of new volunteers twice a year so if you can’t join right now then we can include you next time.

More than 100 people packed into the Loons Club in Lyttelton on Tuesday night to vent their frustrations about the 2022/23 cruise season.
Their main concerns centred around the environmental impact, public transport disruptions and the loss of community that the “floating apartment buildings” brought with them.
For the first time in 11 years, cruise ships returned to Lyttelton Port last summer. More than 125,000 people disembarked from 73 cruise ships between October 2022 and April 2023 - a 357% increase compared to pre-Covid numbers.
Locals complained of inconsiderate, low spending passengers who overwhelmed the area and the public transport, while economic development agency ChristhurchNZ touted the financial benefits.

On the 25th - 27th of August 2023 more than 70 Arts Canterbury members will be exhibiting at the second Arts Canterbury Art Show at The Cashmere Club.
This event is a fundraiser for Arts Canterbury so that they may continue to provide support to local artists.

The deaths have dropped to only 10 for the week from 22 last week but the new cases have risen to 4645 from 3612 last week.
