At West Melton Playcentre our tamariki are supported to become confident, competent, self-directed learners through play based on their interests. We would love you to come for a play, and see us in action at our site in the newly built West Melton Community Centre. At Playcentre siblings attend together, fostering relationships where older tamariki practice empathy and caring towards younger tamariki who in turn love learning new skills from their older friends. This leads on to a wonderful support network and confidence interacting with all ages when they head off to school. Parents are welcome to stay and play (and have a cuppa) or drop children off. Within this environment we actively foster tuakana-teina relationships by recognising we can all learn from each other. West Melton Playcentre parents are actively involved in providing for our children’s learning programmes using skills and inspiration gained through the free Playcentre adult education programme. We also support each other’s individual parenting journeys. It really does take a village, and West Melton Playcentre is a great place to find one. The whole whanau is encouraged to be involved, creating a fun community. Our community consists of families who hail from many different countries and we love learning about the different cultures – and associated celebrations! We honour Te Tiriti o Waitangi and are committed to biculturalism and continuing discovery of Te Ao Maori. The high adult to child ratio allows a good balance of group and individual support for each child on session, meaning we can really get into following and developing their interests. There truly is nowhere else like Playcentre – come and check us out
